Big old time pats fan here!!! If i'm not mistaken this is the first time this game has been posted anywhere. Pats had a really rough time in 1981, but what is crazy is the fact that they were in every game that year. They were never blown out in any game, largest defeat in '81 was a loss to dallas 35-21 and they were in much of that game also. There core players were getting older and they lost what Howard Cosell used to call "the all world tight end" Russ Francis. There D-line was all at least 30years old, so the crap hit the fan that year. However a bounce here or there, a couple of breaks and they could of at least had a respectable record in 1981. They very easily could of been say 9-7, but it wasn't meant to be. In 1982 they got number one pick Ken Simms who was a very average player. Lastly, in a few short years they would make their first Super Bowl.

Daryl Grant ended up playing Right Guard in this game around the 1:18:40 mark briefly filling in for Ron Saul. This game has turned out to be a gem of a game for a Redskins fan. I did not start watching football until the NFC Championship the following season where Daryl Grant played DT and scored a TD on an INT to put the game away.

@@MaximusWolfe Harold Jackson was the first NFL Player to go over 10,000 yards without the benefit of having padding resume in the high flying AFL. He put up better yardage numbers than Charley Taylor in the exact same era and Taylor is in the HOF. Morgans and Jacksons career numbers are comparable and Morgans spent more than half of his career in the 1980's NFL that started to open up offenses. Harold Jackson put up great numbers with not much of a supporting cast. Jackson is a legit HOF Candidate we just do not see many of his highlight films to realize how good he was.

John, Mitchell was by far the better return man. Not only in Redskins history but NFL history. Mitchell once held the record for combined returns for touchdowns until some kid named Hester came along. Most, if not all of his records he still owns. Not to take anything from Mike Nelms. He was fearless and reckless. Occasionally, he would play the safety position in certain situations on defense. I believe he ended up going to three consecutive Pro Bowls as a return specialist and was named to the All Decade Team of the Eighties.

As a Redskins fan I was lucky enough to have first started watching them with my Dad in 1982 as a 6 year old with my Dad. I say lucky because of their first Super Bowl that year. The first thing I notice in this season before was no names in the end zones. It seems that was more common until the early 80s. I remember a few teams not having names in the end zones after this point but it was rare, mostly teams that had baseball also being played on the field. I don't understand though why when the first teams started putting names in end zones that everyone didn't go hell yeah that looks so much better we need to all do that.

I remember Bob Costas calling a basketball game in the 1990's where he kept repeating the same line trying to make the game more dramatic but it was just a game where Michael Jordan balll hogged and the rules were be officiated in a way to get star players to jack up their numbers so every possession looked the same. Might be why I stopped watching Basketball. I tried to watch NCAA Basketball after that but noticed it was geared to be the same way. Supposedly rakes in more money to prop up one star. Anyways I am whining about Basketball sucking in the 1990's. and this thread is about Costas being a clown which he is.

Amazing game! And these announcers are so bad and dumb, lol. Especially, unsurprisingly, this guy named "TRUMPy." He actually says it's a bad decision for Gibbs to call timeout when it's 3rd and 24 with 1:40 left in the half, lol. His excuse, "Well, this Patriots team is a big-play offense!" What happens next play? Patriots do a safe run for a loss, Redskins call timeout again, Patriots punt, and Nelms makes an unbelievable punt return helped by a SAVAGE block by Terry Metcalf that pulverizes two Patriots at the same time. And to top it off with this idiot TRUMP, he actually tries to make a point that the kicker "outkicked his coverage," when in fact there was a guy literally standing right in front of Nelms when he caught the ball. Nelms just broke the tackle. I remember now why I always preferred CBS broadcasts vs. the NBC ones. Thank you for this upload!
