You’re right Jack, the Redskins haven’t played a bad game in two years, but they’re saving up for the last game of the year to roll it out. Oh, it’ll be a whooper. I should know, I ended up just shooting hoops for some of the second half. P.S. I met you Jack one time after a Cardinal game at Busch. We had a sign for Lou Brock and I had a plastic horn, and when I blew it, you said “you’re that guy making that sound. I heard you on the other side of the stadium.”

Eagles showed a lot of heart here a week after one of the more embarrassing losses in franchise history. You would think our awful run defense going up against Riggins and the Hogs would've gotten ugly fast, and he got his, but the offense showed up and kept us in it for a while. Good upload, JJ.

Boy, Staubach retired about 3 years too early...Danny White was solid, but could never get the Boys over the top and the early 80's Cowboys were damn good, just didn't have THAT special QB to lead them. I've been a diehard Cowboy fan since I was six years old and watched the Boys destroy the Dolphin team in the Super Bowl, the same Dolphin team that would go undefeated the next season. However, watching the Skins and Eagles reminds you of just how talented the NFC East was during the 70's, 80's and especially the early 90's when the Super Bowl winner was always the winner of the NFC East. Yep, the Skins were loaded, man I despised these guys back then, but as you age you learn to respect the greats and this Washington squad was great as they have everything you needed. Riggins was a beast, had a solid QB in Joe, solid receivers, great O-line and the defensive front four was scary and of course, with Green, Murphy and company the secondary was very good. Props to the NFC East...think we are the best division in the league right now as well lol.

13:33 Monk makes a great play for the TD, but Eagles fans could claim illegal motion as monk was moving slightly forward at the snap of the ball. Refs let that slide most of the time and did here. I am a Redskins fan so no complaints by me.

I'm sure the Skins felt fortunate to get out with a win. Ron Jaworski played a hell of a game. I will echo what another commenter said: the Skins' secondary really wasn't that good in 1983, despite the fact that they were opportunistic at times and got a lot of turnovers. Darrell Green was good but the combination of Vernon Dean and Anthony Washington on the other side was somewhere between mediocre and just plain bad. They were exposed in this game as they were in the Green Bay game when Lynn Dickey lit them up for 48 points and 400 yards of passing. The Raiders knew this going into the super bowl and exploited it. Anyway, going back to this game, the decision to go for a field goal with 3 minutes left in the game and down by 4 points while in the red zone is absolutely STUPID call by the Eagles' head coach. The announcers should have been screaming WTF, but as usual, they just sat there dumbly and said nothing. Jaworski was throwing the ball well, the receivers were getting open, they were in the red zone, they needed a touchdown. It's not even a difficult call. You go for the first down (or a touchdown). When you see shit like that and the announcers are silent, there's some fishy stuff going on.
@KevinT7274 Жыл бұрын
Raiders were better up front, they stuffed Riggins, Theismann had constant pressure on him, plus Monk and Brown couldn't get open. 4th qtr of the NFC Championship against SF carried over into the SB for the Redskins. They were outscored 59-12 in those 5 quarters. It started a downhill trend for Theismann which ended 2 seasons later with the LT hit.
@jade1966 Жыл бұрын
@@KevinT7274 I agree with everything you said except for the last sentence. Theismann's downhill trend started on opening day in 1985 with that disastrous game against the Cowboys. Yes, he played horribly in the Raiders' super bowl, but he played some outstanding football in 1984. The last few games of the 84 season against the Cowboys, Cardinals, and finally the Bears in the playoffs were some of the best football of Theismann's career. Toughness, accuracy, leadership, everything. Gibbs himself said that Theismann played just as well, if not better, in 1984 than he did in 1983 when he won NFL MVP, considering all the injuries on the offensive line.
@benmoore6612 Жыл бұрын
@@KevinT7274 I rewatched the game.. It's false that the Raiders' heralded corners shut down Monk and Brown. They got open but Thesimann wasn't hitting them. The 20 MPH gusts could've had something to do with it - Plunkett didn't have an outstanding day either.. turnovers, a blocked punt and Marcus Allen having a career day generated almost all of LA's offense.
