Thanks to romelovesdan for providing me the DVD files used for this project. I've enhanced the broadcast recording of the 1982 Week 15 Bengals at Chargers Monday Night Football game. The game was on two separate discs and was already in very nice shape to start with. I ran all the footage through Topaz to upscale, denoise, sharpen and double the framerate, then used Da Vinci Resolve to adjust contrast and color grading. You can see the original shots and post enhancement/color here -- imgbox.com/g/w...

If Coryell's Chargers had merely had a mediocre defense in those days, they would have won at least two AFC Championships. Instead they consistently had one of the two or three worst in the entire league. The number of games they lost over a six-year time period despite scoring 24 or more points is mind-boggling.

I remember this game very well. It happened during Christmas vacation so I got to stay up and watch the entire game. Normally I had to go to bed at halftime during school. I was a stats nerd and I especially loved the high scoring offenses. In the second half I had pen and paper trying to keep up with the two QB’s passing stats. I could not believe both of them ended up with that many passing yards.

I remember being at this game. It was a cold night by San Diego standards. I remember watching drunk Santas fighting in the parking lot. What a great game it was though! I’ve had many miserable experiences in that stadium (the McCree fumble, the wildcard game vs. the Oilers in ‘79, the Kaeding miss) but I will always remember the euphoria of watching those Air Coryell teams. This was a great way to travel back in time. Thanks for your hard work putting this together!!

No celebrating a first down. Dumb how today's players celebrate plays that are routine. Those players should be applauding the guys up front blocking for them. It's a team game. They didn't get it done on their own.

@@someperson8151 I’d usually agree with you but this extreme narcissism comes from the chiefs. The nfl will crown them as winners yet they do not truly play like a team. They all have separate priorities, a lot of these lead down the line to players being cocky after amazing catches for a first down. Which is why I’d choose a Bengals or Patriot dynasty over a Chief or Cowboy one any day of the week. The TEAM can celebrate, not one person.

Holy crap! What a great time travel back to 1982. The commercials for the video games is awesome! And hearing Howard call a game again! I remember telling my dad that EF Hutton should have had a commercial where they are in the middle of the Superbowl. Final seconds. Hail Mary pass. Someone in the crowd does the EF Hutton comment and everyone in the stadium stops watching the game including the players, if the ball would have been caught, the team would have won, but the receiver stops running.

This was actually a pivotal night in San Diego sports history. Not only did the Chargers complete their sweep of the previous season's Super Bowl teams with another dominant offensive showing, but this was also the night that the Padres effectively agreed to terms with Steve Garvey, pillaging him from the Dodgers, and two years later, Garvey would put the Padres on his back in the NLCS, and lead them to the World Series on the same field this game was played on. The acquisition of Garvey was the sign of how serious the Padres were, and the next off-season (after the 1983 season), acquired both Graig Nettles and Goose Gossage from the Yankees to give more veteran leadership to a young team on the rise. And by the way, when the greatest seasons by a wide receiver are brought up, one that's almost never brought up is Wes Chandler's 1982 season, but Chandler's 1982 season may arguably be the greatest by a WR in NFL history. In fact, his average of 129 receiving YPG in 1982 remains, to this day, the highest YPG average for a WR in NFL history for a single season. Had they played a full 16-game season that year, he might have had the first 2,000 yard season for a WR, a mark that, to this day, has still never been achieved. To beat that receiving YPG record today with a 17-game season, a WR would have to have about 2,200 receiving yards in one season.

@@davevolskysbackdoor5673 D'oh !! How could I forget? I landed in LA on the Sunday before they announced the strike. It was my dream holiday, coming up from Australia, and NFL games were on the agenda. All we got to see was the MNF game the next night on TV. Had to settle for two high school games as we travelled across the country. Damn. Also, when we got to SF the cable cars were shut down!! Bad timing. And I was a year early for the USFL! Which I loved back then.

Chuck "cocaine" Muncie was one hell of a running back. Until he would eventually find himself totally consumed by the drug. Much like the rest of US.

Cmon y’all use common sense. Public highways with traffic especially at night. Just one wrong move and it could result in the death of someone possibly even yourselves.
