You tend to forget how good Sheene was, Not always on the best bike but always at the front regarding promotion of himself and the sports safety, a true Legend.

Why is life so boring in comparison these days, Barry took all the fun with him, god bless

I was there that day. Spencer crashed right in front of us. The banter flying around the crowd about why he was called ‘fast freddie’ was hilarious.

Sheene was drinking Brut66 that day!...Amazing, made it look so easy 👏🏻🌟🇬🇧

Good old Murray. 16.50 .."....and sheene is shrugging his shoulders....." when its clearly that Sheene was pulling a wheelie... got to love Murray Walker though..even when he got things wrong.

Man Ron was very fortunate to walk at all after the hit he took in this crash. Angel on his shoulder.😎

John Newbold no. 5 on the second F1 Suzuki. Fantastic rider. Look at the size of the crowd. Such a shame that the factories stopped the works teams from taking part in this event in the aftermath of Spencers crash.

Barry was the greatest! Effortlessly getting away from Freddie. My dad was at this race and saw what happened to him. They were built stronger back then think

Bazza won 5 out 6 races that year and was unlucky not to win the £50000 top prize for winning all 6. A lot of money in those days. A great race series which I doubt will ever be seen again as there are not the quality of riders about these days especially from the US where they used to dominate, cannot think of anyone at present.Bazza would possibly have champ again that season if not for his crash at Silverstone a few months later.

£50k? Are you sure? That's a lot of money these days.

Just double checked, it was actually €40,000. Still a lot anyway. Sheene won 5 out of 6 and then dropped it at the Mallory hairpin to finish second behind Roger Marshall I think on the last lap. That's what you call unlucky. I think John Player put up the prize money and of course they sponsored Sheene so don't know what would have happened if he had won all 6. Went to the 1984 races and seized my bike on the way to the track and two mates who were marshalls at Redgate had to rescue Spencer from the gravel. Great meeting but not much luck for any of us.

I was at the the North West 200 the day he died. A tragic racing accident. He was with the leading group (4 or 5 riders) as they approached Juniper Hill corner early in the Superbike race, someone missed a gear, the man behind that rider slowed fractionally and Newbold hit the rear wheel of the slowed man in front. Awful sad.
