I met Barry Sheene when I was around 10 of 11 years old , I'm now 54 , still one of the greatest moments of my life . Amazing man who lived life to the full for himself and his fans .

As a new fan to the vintage road race years, Barry was and absolute gem to the sport and he was just him. Any american loves that, he was a "cowboy" of the GP.

@seeker156 you are perhaps not so new to this period now but would recommend the 1979 British GP at Silverstone if you have not already seen it. A classic battle between Roberts and Sheene which really got my interest as a kid.

I used to go to Oulton Park to watch the Trans-Atlantic Trophy, great pure racing, no electronics, just race bikes, i always stood at Deer Leap out of Lodge Corner, no traction control, those guys would come out of there with the front wheel up in the air and the engine screaming, i was only a kid in total awe of these guys, absolute LEGEND'S

Only a minor gripe but I am sure this is the 1984 transatlantic meeting. I got Roberts, Baldwin and Croz's autographs in the pit lane area and a mate who was a marshall rescued Freddie out of the gravel at Redgate. Sheene was still recovering from his injuries at Siverstone in '82 during the 1983 season. Lucky enough to sit next to him and Stehanie in pit lane at the 1984 meeting. Unfortunately the season he retired from racing.

Barry was the poster boy, jet set lifestyle, smelling of Brut & beautiful GF. But for us long haired bikers Rocket Ron & Joey Dunlop were our heroes. Though I guess Barry sold more bikes than the other 2 combined.
