@@saschaberger9294 I would not say "all Jamaicans". There were occasional doping violations among them - Ottey and VCB. Other than that there were no gross and systematic violations among the Jamaican Athletes. Jamaica has probably the best sprinting school in the world at the moment. The only nations that could claim that is the US and historical Soviet Union, and German Democratic Republic!

Assuming (and it's probably best to assume) that all the top protagonists were all doped, and thus the playing field was perversely level, well, in that case you have to admire Koch and Kratochvilova, both incredible athletes. I remember seeing Kratochvilova beat Koch, in a 200. I was there, I was around 14 or 15 and I was astonished seeing just how amazingly fast they were running. If my memory serves me well, it was a 22.40 time, which means it was almost 0.9 seconds slower that Flo Jo. I wonder what she looked like in full flight, I mean actually being there and seeing it... Oh, man I feel old. I loved those 80s rivalries... Gohr vs Ashford, Coe vs Ovett vs Cram, Fatima vs Tessa vs Tiina vs PetraTessa etc. Happy days.

@user-ui6kv2np8i

She didn't have the endurance for 400. Typically, sprinters either have outright speed, for 50, 60, 100 or 200, or endurance for 400. The 400 typically requires a slightly different physiology to the shorter distances. Marita was unique, the ONLY sprinter in history, male or female, who broke WRs over 50m, 60m, 100m, 100yds, 200m, 220yds, 300m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m. Btw, her 100m indoor WR of 11.15 still stands today. If it was merely a question of drugs, why did none of the other East Germans have her range? and regardless of that, the rest of the GDR was still miles behind her in the 200 and 400.

Steriods helped these ladies race well. There is no doubt these ladies could not have performed nearly as well if they hadn't taken steriods. It is a shame because the training methods such as speed work and weight training has improved (I was a weightlifter) yet the women's times now in the 400M don't come close to the times in the 80's.

GDR sprinters were great. What i have read is that they did not lift weights but pulled a tyre. Real low dose drug regimen. When they were on drugs they were able to increase their volume of extensive tempo runs (less than 75% of max.) and decrease their specific and speed endurance work all w/out negative side effects. Oh well.

vocal chords develop based on your mother tongue language - so few british people can pronounce it properly without years of practice - loch ness is a good example - the way the scottish pronounce loch (different from the way the english do) is how the germans pronounce koch - at least that is what my german for dummies book says.

@@shunedel Racism? Coe and Koch are white. I would be delighted if it it could be shown there is no evidence that Koch doped. I am a huge fan. I watch her races frequently. But the E German Stasi - secret police - documented in detail the state sponsored doping program and who was involved and these documents held in the Stasi archives were opened up.
