1982 Honda Magna VF750 V45 Carburetor Vent Pipe Fuel Leak

This video shows the issue I am having with my bike. When the fuel pump is active, raw fuel fills the air box from a carburetor vent pipe. The leak is likely due to the fuel had been left in the bike for over 6 years and not run dry. I have tried to run Seafoam and Carb Cleaner down the vent pipe and out the bowl drains but despite all the varnish that has come out, no luck. This will require that the carbs be removed and cleaned.

the REAL lesson that viewers should take from this is that if you let your bike sit (or buy a bike that has been sitting) for years, be prepared to remove, completely disassemble, and thoroughly clean the carb(s), gas tank, and petcock. on these v4 engines, carb removal is a pain but it's do-able with some patience. if you have never done it ... youtube is your friend, carb cleaner is your friend, compressed air is your friend, a high "e" guitar string is your friend, and an ultrasonic cleaner (while not absolutely necessary) is also your friend. don't ignore your friends.

basic problem is a leaky float needle, the only way the airbox gets fuel inside.

What iv learned that the fuel cut off relays were alot of the problems with to much fuel Iv owned 2 v65 3 82 v45 and also have 2003 and these bikes survive on seafoam and also if your getting to much fuel undo the carb screws on the sides and drain it and you should be able to fire up just a trick iv learned good luck

Is it really that bad to get the carbs off? :/ not questioning your methods just have a little experience with the v45 interceptors. Im rebuilding the motor on an 83 and these bikes suck you in... youre going to fight and fight trying to stay on the surface to fix internal problems just to find hours or days later that youre wasting time not just removing the parts in question all together and doing a proper repair/cleaning.

bought a 95 with front right cylinder not firing but there is spark....thinking carb is clogged so decided to use seafoam.....the next day i made the engine run for about 10min...3rd day bike totally wont start and 2 front carbs are leaking

How did you end up fixing this? I have the same bike that I just bought. It's in great shape but sat for 2 years. Float needle stuck and fuel pours out of the exhaust pipes. Would love to get this fixed, myself Let know'!:)

Shane Brown I went through rebuilding the carburators. The float needle seats have intake filters that trapped the gumming and one needle was very very stuck. I have made a video but have yet to put it on youtube. I will try to have it up soon!

Lazy
