Lebanon used to be a majority christian country before all of this. Then their country was overrun by migrants who overpopulated it and then plunged it into civil war. PLO was part of that hostile takeover of Lebanon. Most christians fled and many were massacred. Israel should have been fully supported in the invasion. RIP Christian Lebanon.

Funny I was watching footage from the Falklands war recently. That too was in 1982. The British Marins and Paratroopers looked hard as nails compared to the Argentinian soldiers. Marching thirty odd miles with 45kg kit over mountainous terrain in semi artic conditions, only then to fight a battle against a dug in enemy. It even got to hand to hand combat. The Brits wiped the floor with them.

Highly recommend his book Pity The Nation about the Lebanese Civil War in which he describes his years reporting on the war from Beirut for almost its entire 25 yr duration. he was one of the few journalists not to leave even after westerners started getting kidnapped frequently later in the war

Rather obvious from this footage, but it is hard to believe that reporters and camerapeople were entirely unprotected in frontline conditions. From 2015 on, helmets and security vests have become essentials. Still, we all know about the hundreds of committed professionals killed and wounded in Gaza and the West Bank (never to forget Shireen Abu Akleh).

Just a few months earlier me and mother & siblings traveled there to see family during Christmas/new years celebrations ‘81- ‘82 sort of a ceasefire and it was actually a great trip and the mountains & snow but at the same time scary because of Syrian soldiers dictating to the Lebanese army at checkpoints and never before visiting had i ever seen a machine gun nor soldiers on the streets where i grew up but i have continued travelling there many times over the years.
