Lebanon used to be a majority christian country before all of this. Then their country was overrun by migrants who overpopulated it and then plunged it into civil war. Highly recommend his book Pity The Nation about the Lebanese Civil War in which he describes his years reporting on the war from Beirut for almost its entire 25 yr duration. he was one of the few journalists not to leave even after westerners started getting kidnapped frequently later in the war

Just a few months earlier me and mother & siblings traveled there to see family during Christmas/new years celebrations ‘81- ‘82 sort of a ceasefire and it was actually a great trip and the mountains & snow but at the same time scary because of Syrian soldiers dictating to the Lebanese army at checkpoints and never before visiting had i ever seen a machine gun nor soldiers on the streets where i grew up but i have continued travelling there many times over the years.
