I love seeing this car in the optional two tone exterior paint treatment. That color combination is just stunning. Also i love that it has the traditional analog guages instead of the optional digital dash too. So many were ordered with the digital instrumentation that it's a breath of fresh air to see one without in my opinion. Just a lovely car.

Speedometer needle bounce at low speed is telling you to lubricate it before it breaks. Nice car. Love the 2 door body style.

I cannot recall another moment in automotive history when an entirely new re-bodied car came out with EXACTLY the same design as its predecessor. The huge Mark V was - and IS still - the most successful Mark automobile in Lincoln history with 228,262 sold in just 3 years! Ford knew that they had to downsize the car, but with the Mark V being so successful, they felt their best bet was to shrink it, but with NO change to the design. I guess you can't blame them. This is a pretty car, but you can see that the smaller proportions do not favor the design as much as the much larger Mark V. Apparently, the Lincoln-buying public agreed and barely more than half (131,981) of these Mark VIs were sold in four years.

Looks great ! I have two , 82 sedan , and a 83 coupe with the sunroof..both cars are signature series, so I got the digital cluster on both.. the sedan has the factory Ford CB. One thing to look out for, is the frame up front ,near the rear part of the lower control arm the frames have holes that collect dirt and sand and can rot out that part of the frame.

Lincoln did a good job downsizing the lincolns from the beltline down. The roofs are another matter. The roof is too high and the rear section with that strange little side window is weird. The rear windshield is too upright. Overall these things make the car look short. The next generation coupe was beautiful but the 4 doors were ugly.

I always appreciated how Ford recognized that the Mark V was such a successful car due to the fact it was the last true personal luxury land yacht, and so when it came time to downsize, they respected consumers' styling preferences and simply made the Mark VI a scaled down version of the Mark V.

Downsizing was not kind to Ford, GM destroyed them in sales with the Eldorado model and it's cousins.

Gorgeous car. At 1:14 it bothered me with how cheap they went on the "finish" of open headlights. An expensive Lincoln couldn't have proper shrouds or molded surroundings to cover all that barebones open space around lamps? Other cars of that era did, particularly Luxury cars with opening lights like the Datsun 300ZX & Corvette.

Shame they styled the Mark VI like a brick! That greenhouse is so tall and upright compared to the low sleek lines of the Mark V, IV and III. I always thought they should have used the 77 -79 T-Bird/Cougar body with upgraded mechanicals. This look was fine for the Lincoln Continental but not for the Mark.

I hate these cars. They are nothing but a sick parody of the 1977-1979 Mark V, which I used to own. It looks like what Ford did to the Thunderbird in 1980 and GM did to the Monte Carlo and Grand Prix in 1978.

I hate the downzid 80 Thunderbirds as well. But that’s an interesting choice you specified since the 77 Thunderbird was a downsized version of the Lincoln based (76) Thunderbird and then the 80 Thunderbird was based on the Fairmont. The Lincoln Mark six was about the same size as the 79 Thunderbird before it was downsized. I like Mark fives as well but I always thought the mark six was a pretty cool 80s Lincoln.

@@DavidFlorida634 I'm going by the styling, which to me is one of the most important things about a car, and sadly something that cars no longer have. I was a huge fan of the 1977-1979 Thunderbird. To me it was absolutely gorgeous. I fell in love with it when I first saw it. Yes, it was smaller than the previous generation, but it didn't look like it. Its proportions were perfect. It's swoopy lines with the wrap over roof and long hood were stunning. Then came 1980, and the beautiful Thunderbird became literally a small rectangular box, with no style at all. Fortunately it didn't last long, but the ovaloid shapes that followed it weren't really any better. When it comes to cars, I am definitely a fan of 1970s designs, not just in size, but the overall styling as well.
