I live in Germany and I like your Videos. Found you on youtube 4 weeks ago. The car is absolutely fantastic. But I like also the blue coupe in this video. I bought my first oldtimer a 43 years old W123 Sedan one week ago from spain with 124000 kilometer. I will get it in a few days. But I hope to have the possibility sometimes to bye a car at your shop. The quality of your cars is phenominal.

I love your videos and as a Mercedes-Benz Enthusiast I admire your craftsmanship and art... that being said... you mentioned your parts car being in the background and they look like very savable examples.. and I suppose that would be my only critique... I know you specialize in the best of the best examples but in all honesty in my humble opinion.. I believe to be a true enthusiast of the brand.. you should be saving the cars in the background.. even as lower level restorations these cars deserve to be saved rather than to be stripped for parts just to polish on the cars that are already of top notch quality... I can understand parting a car if it has extreme accident damage or rust.. otherwise I believe it should be saved to some level... These cars will not be around forever and I just hate seeing decent cars with potential to be saved parted out just for the purpose of making a near perfect car go from a 9 to a 10... You should also make cars that are a 5 to a 7 or 8... Just my opinion. You're an amazing wealth of knowledge when it comes to these car and I just wish you would occasionally save a car that could stay living with your help rather than use it for parts and then toss what's left over aside when you're done with it... Just my opinion. Keep up your passion and let's keep as many of these cars on the road as possible!

Hey I totally hear what you're saying. However here's the problem. Customers will not pay for number 5 6 or 7 out of 10 cars and they will not pay for the labor required to get them working. So if I fix up a 200,000 mi beater and make it a nice daily driver people are not willing to pay me for that. So I can't make any money doing it. For example that 1981 wagon back in the back corner in the video has a blown engine and the chassis has 190,000 miles on it. To rebuild the engine would cost me about $5,000. To repaint the car would cost me about $6,000. To rebuild all the suspension would cost me $2,000. To redo the seats and the carpet would be about $4,000. To redo the air conditioner would be about $1,500. Anyway I think you see where I'm going all of a sudden I just spent $20,000 to restore a vehicle that's probably worth about $20,000. Why would I do that and why would anyone do that? I'm just as much as an enthusiast as you are in fact I'm such an enthusiast that I started an entire business based on these cars. However restoring cars is a very specific financial equation and you will lose your ass if you start restoring crappy cars that are worth no money. If that wagon I'm talking about in the example was $100,000 vehicle then yes it would be totally worth spending $20,000 to restore it but that's not the reality of it. I hope all of this makes sense. The reality of the situation is that people prioritize saving their wallet over saving an old car. Although your argument has a lot of emotional appeal it's not financially practical for anyone. So the next logical thing to do is take the cars that are financial losers and use them to save all of the cars that are financially viable. I'm doing the best I can considering the reality of the economics of the situation. I'm sure all this makes complete sense to you. If I was a multi-millionaire or had a multi-millionaire benefactor that would fund restoring cars at a financial loss that I would say let's do it. But unfortunately I don't have someone to fund that operation.

Watched your video on the axle rebuild. Unfortunately I’m in S Ca. Would there be any recommendations out here? Their ok??? but the boots are original dry rotted 189k miles. Really appreciate you videos on how to on these cars. By the way mine 85 300CD.

I hear you man but that's how the collector car market works. The older the car gets and the harder they are to find the more the price goes up for the really really nice ones.
@InteloPL
@InteloPL Жыл бұрын
@@woodsandbarclay the issues is that the crap ones are NOT getting restored because noone can afford to pay the price of a nice one for crap and add 3x as much to fix it.
@woodsandbarclay
@woodsandbarclay Жыл бұрын
@@InteloPL I hear you man that's just how the classic car market works. In a few years the aftermarket will grow and there will be even more support and the price of the cars will go up to a point where it's feasible to do complete restorations on the really clapped out crappy cars. The market just hasn't gotten to that point yet. However you can see the same pattern with classic muscle cars.

@woodsandbarclay
@woodsandbarclay Жыл бұрын
@@Zweigenhaft9 that's correct however the new c class is a piece of junk compared to one of these cars. The new C-Class is made of plastic and computer chips and won't last. These cars are built to last for generations. ;) This one is 40 years old and it's ready for the next 40 years. I would take one of these cars over any modern Mercedes any day of the week there's no comparison in build quality. You're looking at one of the best cars ever built in the world.

@woodsandbarclay
@woodsandbarclay Жыл бұрын
Prices in the collector car market are determined by rarity and condition. Chances of finding another one like this are very slim. This car is extremely rare in this color combination, mileage and condition. I also own a restoration shop and have completely gone through this vehicle to ensure everything is 100%. The cars that are sold out of my shop are not equivalent to the other cars that you're looking at or making comparisons to. We only sell fully sorted Turn Key solutions that have been completely gone through by experts. That is why our cars command a premium. Simply put when you buy a diesel Mercedes from my shop you are getting one of the best examples in the country.
