I hadn't quite turned 8 then but I was very upset with that playoff loss. I was mad like the incredible hulk and I threw a chair! I still hate Dolphins coach Don Shula as well as AJ Duhe and Bob Baumhower. Also hate those field conditions; game should have been moved to Shea Stadium because the field was not covered.

Anthony Munoz used to come into our Italian Deli in Thousand Oaks, called the Godmother. Nobody made a better sub sandwich or sausage and peppers, or meatball sandwich. Mr. Munoz used to visit the deli in 81-82, before it was sold. He loved our pastrami sandwiches and hope he’s reading this. I asked him who was the toughest linemen he faced, he said it was Gastineau. Number 99

Walt Michaels was really asked to resign by Mr. Hess because he was drunk from what I heard. I really believed that the Jets were going to win it all in 83. The 1982 New York Jets were the Road Warriors indeed, they played four home games at beloved Shea Stadium in the heart and soul of the Big Apple in New York City, however, the Kansas City Chiefs totally destroyed their chances to get home field advantage in that year, P.S. Two years later, the New York Jets moving from Shea Stadium to Giants Stadium was a giant mistake and that resulted in many losing seasons including a 1-15 record in 1996!!

Matchups do matter and Miami owned the Jets in 1982. Beating them twice that season by double digits (45-28 and 14-0). They won also 20-19 and Miami’s kicker missed 2 FGs that day. Leahy only missed a PAT and FG. As for Jets -Redskins SB matchup….we will never know. But we do know the Skins beat the Jets in 1979 and 1987. 0-3 vs Miami in 1982 season. Twice losing by double digits. Twice losing in sunshine. Yet Jet fans and media blame the AFC championship game loss on the field conditions. Losers lose and complain about how they got robbed. Winners win and move on.

Don Shula did his best Astros impersonation and CHEATED a better NY team out of a Championship !! If they had placed the tarp on that filed, There is no doubt the JETS destroy that Dolphins team !.. playing in that slop held them back, Hurt the running game and the pass rush as well.. With no running game to speak of, That made the Jets one dimensional and exposed Richard Todd as an average QB who couldn't protect the ball !

Funny, in the 2 games that year before the AFC game, miami beat them twice. Jets were a good team but their coaches were not that good. And Todd that year was HORRENDOUS vs miami in 3 games, 13 INTs in those 3 games. Jets in '86 I think were a better team but I think injuries started catching up to Freeman McNeil for the jets who had an underrated career as a jet. Over 10 years if I remember.

You do all know that the Miami Dolphins rented and were merely tenants in the Orange Bowl? Same as the University of Miami Hurricanes. Many area high school teams too used the stadium as their home field on Friday nights because they didn’t have a stadium on campus. Most games the Dolphins couldn’t get the city of Miami to spend the money to paint the Dolphins logos on the field for home games (they would only do it for prime time Monday Night Games). To think Shula could direct the city of Miami to do anything is absurd and moronic. It’s why the Dolphins owner finally built their own stadium to get out of Little Havana section of Miami and to stop sharing their field with a college and numerous high school teams. The city did the bare minimum for the Dolphins. Take it from someone who lived there. Your beef is with the city of Miami and the NFL. Why do you think the NFL never had a Super Bowl again in Miami after the 1978 season? It didn’t return the SB to Miami area (Miami Gardens - which isn’t Miami) until 1989.
