MotorScotti didn’t know there were so manny different opinions for the first year of the third gen trans am everyone amazes me on what they know about these cars at the same time I do feel lucky enough to have this car especially since they are now becoming hard to find there is one other near me just as in bad shape but my point being that they are hard to find is because not many people liked them for awhile and if you do find one in completely original shape with no resto those cars are jewels and cars like those must be preserved mine on the other hand will need to be worked to be restored into original factory spec whenever that happens .. thanks Motorscotty and Everyone else following me this whole year I’ve owned this car it’s been a long journey!!

The Turbo Finned Wheels are super rare and expensive. The Knight Rider community has gobbled them all up for Kitt restorations and clones. Back in 2001 when I was researching how to restore my 83 T/A You couldn't find them for under 500 apiece. The bowling ball hub caps are even rarer because of the fact that if you didn't secure them somehow they would fly off the cars at speeds or when a big bump came along.

Matt Homan wow great to know one of the caps for the wheel is broken I can't find a center cap with a Pontiac logo on them any where so ill probably just replace them all with a firebird logo instead

There may be reproductions available with a little research online.

The Turbo Finned Wheels are not the Knight Rider wheels, the "Turbo Cast". the Turbo Cast have the little hooks for the bowling ball hubcaps to click in. The finned wheels are not designed to have hubcaps on them. :)

The 305 is a Chevrolet engine. The last v 8 Pontiac made was the 301 and that was in 81, after that all Camaro and Firebirds share the same engines, a Pontiac 400 would have been great in the 82 thru 92 trans am, the Pontiac motors had big displacements but they were not big blocks.
@TFD1982

Luis Gonzalez sure would have been but I think the turbo 301 would have been a great motor

Do yourself a favor next time. Vacuum out the engine compartment before you start it. A little cleaning is better than a fire in your engine compartment that's gonna destroy all your wiring.

The thing i hate about these cars is the fact that they either need to be retrofitted with a pre smog sbc or upgraded to a modern LS engine to really reach their potential. And the fact that many only have 80k on the odometer and are ragged out.. My first car (10 yrs ago) was a 25 yr old 82 Camaro that was in this kind of shape, or worse way back in the 90s long before i started driving and was fixed up gradually.. Anyway we put a fresh sbc in it and i fixed it up more later BUT having owned 2 4th gen f bodies since, both the 3.8 and the ls1 I can say I dont miss my 3rd gen and probably wouldnt own another one, atleast as a daily driver, the 4th gens are night and day better on handling, the 80s were a bad bad time for cars, honestly for the results and time you'd probably be better off getting a late 70s to 81 if youre going to do all this work, or just getting a newer 93-02 instead to fix up.. Ive worked on all and drove all, just my opinion esp if its going to be a daily driver, still a very cool car I'm not knocking it, but just be aware these cars arent worth a ton of money and they just fall short on not just the performance side but with quality with the generations before and after it

TFD ! I hear you. Good luck. You can find all the mechanical parts cheap but you might struggle finding good used interior parts, you can use the seats and console out of a 4th gen which are plentiful in the junkyard, you really will be hard pressed to find any 3rd gens with a decent interior, they made a ton of these cars, but its tough to find any in decent condition so just beware alot of things may just have to be upgraded to 4th gen, you can also put a 5.3 out of a late model chevy truck or tahoe which would be awesome, I wouldn't put an 80s smog engine back in it or even fool with getting one back up and running and 350s are stupid cheap to build

Pretty fly for a WiFi you got that right I’m so happy I own a piece of history, but sadly it won’t idle at all and is blowing black smoke while just means it’s running too rich I have yet to drill out the adjustment screws since the Quadra jet cab has never been touched so hopefully soon I can do a video on the current state of how it is running. I just need to figure out if I can set up a go fund me to help fix er up I have a job now but I need help so I’ll mention that too.. please don’t forget to subscribe 😁😁
