Jeris White.....it was his holdout that made way for a rookie named Darrell Green to take his spot the following season. And the rest was history.
@NoBullsh_t Жыл бұрын
Green was a rare first round pick for the Skins in '83, White, whom from the games I watched was solid, was the nickel corner behind Lavender and Parrish, didn't really start for us until '82, by then he was in his 9th year anyway. Green was taking over at some point irregardless...

Part of the field is set up for the Sugar Bowl, which would be played the following week. For those curious, Penn State would beat Georgia 27-23.
@DNSKansas2 жыл бұрын
The north end zone is already decorated for Penn State, but the south end still has the Saints instead of Georgia. It was the same way for the Saints' home finales of 1985 and '87, but after that, the NFL prohibited the Superdome from putting down Sugar Bowl logos for a Saints game. This created a huge problem when the Saints played on New Year's Eve 1990 (a Monday night).

waaaaay back in the day, I played Strat o matic football with some roomies. Injuries part of the game. because of his swiss-army-knife stats, we made Merkens the emergency offensive player.

IF those broadcasters understood the rules on that "out of bounds" TD they wouldn't protest so much. If the receiver steps out of bounds but the defender touches the ball before the receiver and then there receiver catches it, it is a legal catch. If the receiver was the first to touch it after going out and coming back in. then yes it would be illegal. The Referee explained it.

Yeah I love Brookshire but I couldn't believe they didn't understand the rule.

these announcers are clueless about the rules (see: Charlie Brown's second touchdown). Receiver who steps out of bounds has to re-establish himself in bounds and he can't be the next person to touch the ball. I'm not saying that necessarily happened (he needed both feet, I would think), but the announcers are completely out of it.
@Shabba68845 жыл бұрын
Mostly agreed. The re-establishment angle was/is kinda besides the point, though, because when Charlie Brown does catch the ball, his right foot is half out of bounds. Instant replay wasn't around for four more years, though.

9 game season due to the players strike

Both conferences had a 4-5 team in the playoffs--Cleveland in the AFC and Detroit in the NFC. Tiebreakers kept other 4-5 teams out--Buffalo and Seattle in the AFC, and the Giants and Saints in the NFC. There were 8 playoff teams in each conference as part of the resolution of the strike.

Good game hard-hitting it made sense for givbbs the want to rest Reagan's a little bit after clenching a playoff spot give Washington a chance to play some more on the good field and air the ball out a little bit one correction Wayne Wilson went to Shepherd College in shepherdstown West Virginia I grew up in shepherdstown they've got a little mini museum at their sports center dedicated to him good all around player made his final action with the Redskins replacement team Shepherd college is not in Martinsville West Virginia it's in shepherdstown and a receiver who went out of bounds is eligible on a batted ball

I remember this play. It turned the game for the cheatskins. Out of bounds=player out of play,..PERIOD.
@Headbanger826885 жыл бұрын
The rule is the wide receiver can't be the FIRST player to touch the ball after going out of bounds. The wide receiver can come back inbounds & catch a ball that was touched by someone else. What happened in that play was the pass was barely tipped by the Saints defender, bounced off of Charlie Brown's helmet, and he came back inbounds to make the catch. So the Saints defender was the FIRST player to touch the ball, therefore making this play legal.
