Since this is a YICS model, it is impossible to sync the carbs without using a YICS blanking/shut off tool. YICS means the inlet ports are interconnected within the cylinder head. Google it for better understanding. Even if you manage to get equal pressure gauge readings by accident, this does not mean your carbs are properly synced. Insert the tool (ie. close the YICS ports), measure again, and you'll see.

I ran my xj550 on pod filters with the yics permanently blanked off as if ran better that way.
