My dad had one of the first N7 Gleaners around 2 years before the production models came out. The N6 came out first. My dad and his brother took over the AC dealer business from my grandfather in the mid 70's. My dad's brother ran the dealership. No dealership could get a N7 to display in their lot. You had to have a person interested in buying the N7. So my uncle convinced my dad to trade in his L gleaner for this monster of a combine. The headers came off and needed transport trailers to haul down the road. Dad had a 24ft head for wheat and soybeans and a 12 row head for corn. Dad added the extension to the grain holding box so it held around more grain. Before they got the combine, My dad and 2 of his farm hands had to go to AC training school to learn how to use and maintain it. They first thing AC told my dad was, do not wreck the radiator because we only have one spare. And of course the water pump blew and the fan went thru the radiator. My dad had to drive to Missouri from Ohio to pick up the spare and give them the damaged radiator. We had rear wheel drive on the combine which also broke clean off. And another trip to Missouri. It was all we could do to keep the grain trucks empty. That N7 did more than 3 - L gleaners combined.

Lot of hours running an N7. Deere dealer tried like hell to sell a new 9600 to replace it. That N7 tore that 9600 to pieces in milo, and did a better job too. Deere salesman didn’t even try to pitch his machine after an hour in the field.

That's awesome, I love hearing stories like this. Took Deere a long time to release a rotary combine to the market. Gleaners were such advanced machines!

@@GMdieselman Allis had amazing engineering resources. Also because of A-C’s diversity they had manufacturing methods others did not possess. Miss that old N7 every fall...crowd that hydro till the boost gauge read about 30psi and let her EAT! Ran that machine for 10 years after hourmeter quit working and was around 5k hours when it stopped. Cage was falling apart...that whole machine was a case study in metal fatigue by that point...

Wrong movie, You are talking about the first generation CIH rotaries, as they lose their paint and turn silver and throw everything over the sieves.

You can parrot that silver seeder comment all you want but the truth is that Gleaners have always had a great reputation with keeping the grain and keeping the grain clean. Especially the N series. Back then IH had the reputation of being short on cleaning shoe performance aka, throwing grain over the sieves, and Deere had the rep of throwing grain over the walkers. That's just the facts.
