Squier sounds much fuller and more mellow - gets my vote.

I also have a Squier JV SST50 (SQ5). Very nice sound. Sweet and powerful sound. The neck is thin and easy to grip. Moreover, the price at that time was 50,000 yen. At the time, I could buy it for about $400. It is surprising that this is a model for students. There is a page of Squire in the catalog of Fender Japan. I agree that this video also reproduces a good sound.

I am into Fender Japan, but I respect Squire cos they are so similar. I have my Fender MIJ and my friend has a Squire Made in Jaoan 1984, they are so good and sililar, what I can envy is that I bought mine ten times more,,

I have an 83 JV Squier with the U.S pick ups and she sounds awesome but, man, I gotta admit that those Japanese pick ups sound r-e-a-l-l-y good. If I should ever get my hands on another early one I certainly won't balk at it if it has those.

The Squier is dirty and smooth, while the Fender is punchier and cleaner sounding. I have both of them, and concerning quality, there is no difference. Those JV's play fucking good. greets & rock on, Andreaso

How consistent are the fender JV Strats? I’m debating between three, and the best I got from a shop about one of them is “you can’t go wrong with this one” , that’s a shop in Japan
@revfot234975 жыл бұрын
the difference in sound between these two are usually prime examples of strats with their pickups close to the strings (squier) and strats with their pickups further away from the strings(fender). how high are the pickups set on these? if they are set the same, the squier must have quite hotter pickups. it would be cool to see what they would sound like with the same height!
@petarkosovic64553 жыл бұрын
As I recall, they're around 6.2 kohm. Neck pickup probably around 6.7kohm. Pickups alone can't make guitar this much thicker. JV's are trully beasts.

I think more interesting to compare your fender jv st 62-65 with squier jv export which has american pickups too

How do You manage to get that great sound with Crybaby added to Fuzz Face?? Normally it would cancel the fuzz and do a lot of weird noises due to the Crybaby's buffer... This is unsolved mystery for me despite I searched the Internet :P

yes I think so too... better than the customshop things.... to my opinion without the pedals... you can really hear the dynamics of both guitars and there is a difference.... but it's like most of good guitars.... something you like from one and something you like from the other.... may be like in real life also.... some girls do and some girls don t....

I have a '69 reissue) JV Strat. Bought new from Gamlins in Cardiff in October 1982. It has Squire on the headstock - possibly one of the very earliest. You can't really AB JV Strats from this era. Fender Japan were going through a period where they were using spare bits and pieces. Mine had Made in USA pickups with plastic covered wires but others had old fashioned braded Pups. My JV Sounded great but I had to swap the Pups out for narrow humbuckers as they were notoriously noisy when used in theaters with a hard of hearing induction loop present (no different to any strandard current single coil i suppose). It has since 1991 had SD Hotrails on bridge and Di Marzio middle and neck - It's a phenomenally versatile instrument as I've wired it for splitting, serial and parallel options. Bodies were made of different woods even. Mines quite heavy with great sustain, but I've seen some early JVs light as a feather. So early 80s JV were often different within the same run. Both of these in the video sound great (As all early 80s JVs did IMHO) The Squier happens to me mellower, but I don't prefer one over the other.
