1983 Ford Econoline E100 with 300 6 cylinder

My uncle aquired this van back in 1997 from a laundry company that used it to take and deliver laundry.
My aunt uses the van in the winter time for getting around, while my uncle would use it for general purpose while the truck is hibernating for the winter.
It use to have dull yellow paint, but my aunt colored it white with a thick blue pinstripe in the indentations on the sides.
Engine: 300 cu-in. inline 6 120hp.
Modifications: Larger cam, flowmaster exhaust, LED turn signals.
The Chevy 350 V8 in the back was the original engine that came out of the pickup and is slightly rebuilt. IT IS FOR SALE. It has an aluminum intake off an '84 Pontiac.

That is a REAL van...'91 was the last year of this Ford Econoline bodystyle. 1983 saw the 6.9 IDI in both the Ford Econoline and the F-250/F-350 until 1987. In 1988 through '94 was the 7.3 IDI and you could get either turbo or non-turbo.

this was the most reliable van i ever owned i bought 5 cars last year(mostly beaters) and after 300,000 miles the motor fell out of it.it was great of gas for its size and with 1 ton shocks could haul ass.

@Ihateoldyork it's actually an I6. 6 cylinders are usually placed in the basic trim model of a vehicle particularly in trucks (this includes full sized vans too). This van here was probably the most basic van you could buy at the time, except it had an automatic transmission. There is also engine swapping. My uncle's pickup use to have a V8, now it has an I6

I ordered a 1981 E-150 with the 300 6 . Those are stock bumpers that would be painted Argent , the E-100 comes with a spare and 1 seat unless you order a passenger seat that will get you the seat belt assembly and sun visor. The driver door has an upgraded panel because my Custom option gave it wood trims inside and chrome grill but I didn't get the storage pockets on the door...... it must be from an XLT and up with wood trim because of the 02:55 mark that has the l shaped strip with wood accent and the speaker cover . That chrome grill may be a replacement because i could have ordered the external Bright trim appearance without the Custom option but the rear light would come with the stamped shiny Bezels . Those pop-out windows were an option on top of the bright trim because the base pop-outs had black metal trim , the side cargo doors didn't come with windows so this van may have been ordered in a hot climate to vent the van because AC cost me about $1000.00 back then as did the automatic. 1981 was the first year for the Universal VIN tags to show where a car was built by the nation. The VIN on mine started as 1FD for the USA , FORD , incomplete vehicle ( special order no seats ) . This 1982 should be 1FTAE04EC( plant code) sequence build #1* * * * * . The 4th position "A" is the 3000lbs GVW , B would be 3001-4000 lbs.

sounds nice, i used to have an 88 E150 and it also has a straight 6 in it... i bought it from an auto auction for 450.00... found out i was the 2nd owner on it and it was originally fleet maintained by a college service van, and it only has 95k miles when i bought it, but it was getting at 16 mpg on the highway

Sweet van! I bought my first car at 14, a '79 E100 shorty cargo van with a 300 inline 6 and a 3 speed manual on the floor with overdrive. Paid $100 for the thing, drove it for a year, then sold it for $750. Wish I had kept it!

bearings are worn, oil pump pickup driveshaft is in a box, a double-roller timing chain is also in a box, and it can come with a full engine gasket kit.

He got them at a truck stop. He bought a pair of square LED lights for a semi trailer. Then he trimmed both the new and the old lamps to make the new lights fit. Be careful not to harm the backup lamp.

My dad had a 1990 econoline with the same engine(300 straight 6), and the body went well before the engine did. as a matter of fact, my dad got 500$ for it from the junk dealer(moter still ran, 1 ton van)

Nice Econoline. My dad used to have a 78' Econoline 100 inline 6, the last year of the round headlights. Had a 3 on the tree manual shifter the last year of those too i believe. I've always wished he kept it so i could have fixed it up.

Change in answer, he actually could sell it for $1000, but just to let you know, the interior is bad, but it is good for work, it is rusty, especially in the rear. The only thing it has that's powered is the steering and the overdrive automatic, but it has manual everything else on it, including brakes. He'll also throw in some chrome bumpers, and various lights and parts.

It has a Deltaflow 50 series muffler, stainless steel catback, he's probably asking about $200 for the V8, the statistics and data can show you where it is. It is in Van Wert, Ohio.

continued.... in anyway it's been tuned up right..... i bought the van so i can get rid of my P.O.S dodge truck... it burns oil... but the van doesn't even use 1 drop of oil, i sold it and bought a 91 E150 with a 302 V8... and it was maintained by a vending company... runs like a top and it gets at 22 mpg on the highway... and it has 2 tanks on it... the 88 ford has 1 tank and it only hold 10 gallons.... while my 91 van has 24 gallons (12 gallons per tank)

Had a chance for a well-cared for 300c.i. in an '83 150 camper van,but no van to put it in. They will run 4-ever,but don't rev the heck out of it eh,those six's have friggin big pistons. @trav10854 way back when Ford had the E100s and F100s as the basic trim model for that rating of truck (in this case half-ton) the 150 models basically were a higher trim until about the late 80s or 90s when the 100 models were dropped and only the 150s remained. There was also a time when 3/4-1 ton trucks had a standard and a Heavy Duty trim. Today all 3/4-1 ton trucks are Heavy Duty.

@chevyimpala3 my uncle use to have a glass pack, but my aunt was driving it on the highway a couple years ago and passed a police officer while the engine was approaching the shifting point, and she got cited for noise violation. So my uncle changed it to a Flowmaster. How do you have dual exhaust, when there is only one exhaust manifold? You must have a split exhaust.

These i6 engines can actually run a true duel exhaust set up due to firing pattern. They can derive more benefit from dual exhaust than any v8. You can buy aftermarket manifold that runs full dual exhaust, not split.

and waste more fuel too. the 300 six was one of the most reliable engines ever made. camshaft was gear driven, no belts or chains. high performance camshafts available as well as headers and intake manifolds thru Clifford research and overdrive units.

some guy at an engine builder shop really worked over a Ford 300 six (called it Frankinsix) here on youtube and got 311HP & 375 FT-LBS torque.

@ReDRuM868 hmm, I thing this van would have a manual for a basic transmission. The overdrive automatic on it was the only feature that was upgraded on the van when it was bought. Brand new it didn't even have power steering and it still doesn't have power brakes. Everything else is basic basic.

He probably got it for cheap, the previous owners were very abusive to this thing, plus it had power nothing on it, and it barely started when he first got it because the teeth on the flywheel were worn. So I'm guessing he got it dirt cheap.
