It looks as mint as what my Vacationer wagon that I had was. I added VK front indicators to mine since I preferred that clear look (I’d owned an early VK Executive when I was 18 and wish I’d never sold it). Previous owner had added Cheviot Stars which had been colour matched to the body colour and a tacho out of a VC SL/E. Only other thing I did was a serious stereo upgrade to a Clarion head unit with some Kenwood 7x10s in the back and Kenwood 6s in the front. After I had the carby rebuilt I ended up swapping it for an early VN Calais just as the old Trimatic was about to let go. Mine was also the 202 Blue Motor, but nowhere near as mint under the bonnet as yours.

@ayrproductions Yeah I do like the look of the clear lenses myself on these but choose to keep it original it's been a labour of love to keep it or try and keep it real with a few no standard add ons. eg.Radio front seats ,centre console and passengers side mirror and of corse a respray but with so many of these now been modified its great to own one that is close to original

@@carsnstuff83 yeah I had one that was cracked so needed replacing anyway, then while looking on eBay for a replacement could only get secondhand ones that were just as bad, but found a pair of new VK ones for $50 delivered. Weren’t genuine ones but brand new ones for the same price as a single secondhand unit, I couldn’t pass up.

Had an SL/E of these. Had a 202 6 cylinder which was faster than the crappy 253 V8 that was also offered.

The 253 was a 4.2 . It tried to have the fuel economy of the 202 6 cylinder with the power of the 308 V8 (which was the top engine … you could also get a dual exhaust but the commodore 3:14 body wouldn’t take a 350 chev like the Monaros). Instead the 253 V8 had 2 kw extra power which considering the extra weight of the V8 meant it had no more real power than the 202 and had worse fuel economy. There was also a “Star fire” engine which was a 4 cylinder engine from Toyota … complete dog of an engine for this car.

​@@patricksoos674The star fire motor was not a Toyota motor at all but a 4cly version of the 2850 Holden 6 motor .True they did try and build a motor based on Mitsubishis 2.6 Aston motor but went back to what they knew best cast iron blocks.

This car doesn't have air con, the switch above the centre vent is rear demist. Overall, this is a pretty good resto, the underbody & respray are of a good standard.

Even though it's low spec I thought it would have had a ac because of how hot it gets in Australia

@@EveryThingCars53AC was an option up until the VE when it was finally made standard (not many cars VT-on though were sold without it being added). Also, the SL was the base model of the VH. L was only available on the VC which was the previous model.

These were considered a mediun sized family sedan when they came out. Have you ever seen one parked next to a VE? The VH looks so tiny 😅

@@EveryThingCars53there was a Vauxhall version sold, it just wasn’t called a Commodore (went under three or four different names) and had much different running gear, along with recirculating ball steering (the Holdens got rack and pinion) and later on the option of IRS (which the late Peter Brock tried to fit on the HDT VL Directors but they hadn’t been ADR tested, so it caused the bust-up between he and Holden in 1987) on higher spec models.

that car has no air cond and no rev counter (tacho) it has a vacuum gauge or economy gauge . how did you think it had air cond with no compressor in the engine bay or no on/off switch

Sadly, that's not a rev counter - it's a vacuum gauge. Rev counter was SL/E only, I believe...

RPM Guage only on high spec car.But I quite like the vacuum Gauge and find more useful than if it had an RPM one .

rev counter, oil & volts gauge was available as a factory option, on base models.

Tacho was an option on SL, Vacationer, Executive and SL/X, but standard on SL/E and SS.

I had one. SL/X auto. It was the 4-cylinder 1900cc Starfire engine. The car itself was pleasant enough, and it did handle well, but the engine was simply just bad. Hard to start, noisy and hard on fuel. Sad.

Ya my mate told me about the 4 cylinder why would Holden think it would be a good idea to put a little 4 cylinder in a big car.

In europe it was the Opel Commodore/Rekord, and anything other than a 4cyl with a manual 4speed was a pretty rare option back then, and is virtually impossible to find nowdays! You guys had some pretty nice engine options down there! 🍻

@ThePeca1988 By the time these came here the six cylinder blue motor was getting outdated .V8 was the better option .Still the 6 wasn't a bad motor and had more than enough power for the city driver

​​@@carsnstuff83yes the inline 6 was a good option, it was actually the top of the line here (it was a 2.5L 6cyl option if i remember correctly) but as usual we were getting mostly the 1900cc inline 4 (with about 90hp), that was the "standard". You had such good engine options on these older cars, plus they almost looked like the european versions, but somehow always a bit cooler! I just love 70s-80s Aussie cars, they are in a league of their own!

in the vh the sl was bottom of range those wheel covers on this car are off a vh sl/x need to get your facts right

Actually if you listened to the video I said the wheel trims were of a sl/x and that other parts were of higher spec models so how about you take more notice of the video you watch before you chat shit

Oh and the thing on the rear window is a rear louvre off memory, my old VT had them. Great for keeping sun out the rear cabin, terrible for seeing out the rear though 😅
