God I love the sound of these. Even the chime sounds better than most new cars. I currently have an 08 Toyota Tacoma, when you start it it sounds like a vacuum cleaner and it makes this horrible beeping sound when you have the key in. I want one of these so bad but my folks gave me this truck so they kind of have me on a leash with it, and quite frankly its an awesome truck so I really don't want to give it up. Someday though, I will have a vintage Lincoln or Cadillac

Interesting. I've had a dozen Mark V's and VI's over the years and always used this feature. Never had a problem with it draining batteries. Guess I was lucky!

A fantastic car. Thanks for sharing it. I never even knew this top option existed.

They're beautiful cars, and they're built HILARIOUS. The engine out of a ford ranger, the body platform of a crown vic/mercury, a TON of electronic extras that just... went wrong... all the time. Mainly because they didn't build the electrical system with the additional electronics in mind. And because of a few other... less than ideal... decisions. The four-door had lit opera windows in the back. Super classy. Very cool. Except the bulbs they used got a bit hot. Hot enough to eventually melt the cover. That keyless entry system? Wasn't very well weather sealed. And it Would cause the car to get a bit.. confused if some rain water got in. Cigarette lighters in every door but the driverside, motorized windows in all four seats, light controls in all four seats... but the switches were not very well connected and occasionally just... decided not to work anymore. Door latch pins that had a bad habit of just kinda... falling off, so you couldn't get into the car anymore, and a power system built to chew through alternators so readily that they built it out just so the alternator would be one of the easiest parts to swap. That lovely vinyl top? Had a habit of collecting rainwater underneath, which it would drain... right out the side, just behind the rear door. RIP your paintjob. And speaking of paintjob, because this big-ass V8 with terrible cooling got a Little bit roasty from time to time(read: Constantly), your hood would very likely lose its paint too. Oh, and the autolights are the best joke of the whole car. Inspired design. Automatic brights... except if you drove through a dip. They worked by detecting oncoming light sources... and detected their own reflected light. I loved mine, it was beautiful, it was comfortable, and everything felt okay when I sat in it, but holy shit would I like to see it rebuilt properly for the modern era. Replace as much of the body as possible with CF to cut down on what will almost certainly be about about 500 pounds MINIMUM in the hood and trunk, build the trunk with a proper spring system to keep the damn thing open better, rebuild ALL of the dash electronics to fit a more modern necessity(The secondary window to the right almost always had the gas gauge up, which could easily fit as an aside to the speedo, and that secondary would make a perfect navigation window), but try to keep as much of that older charm(The brushed nickel look was ALWAYS gorgeous, the wood-print accents, the crushed velvet seats, the plush carpet, the pretty toggle switches, all of it. Every bit of it was gorgeous). But modernize everything else you could. Shit, you've got a TON of room on the platform, slap some batteries under that sumbitch and make it a hybrid. Or hell, make a full electric version. Even if you keep it full gas, push that firewall forward, for some leg room, give it a proper crumple zone and some decent safety features, recess the back bench a bit and let it take over a bit of the parcel bench to give it chauffer-style seating in the rear and more leg space, all of it. I honestly think a car like this could be made today and made well. And if I had stupid-money, I'd do it myself. And I'd be the loon who'd make it a generator hybrid and put stupidly beefy electric motors on all four wheels, just to make people shit themselves when this old-looking boat of a beast came off the line like a bat out of hell.

That is so cool! I wished that they would make personal luxurt cars again. On Cadilac, they call their auto lamp, the Twilight Sentinal.
@onedollarphilistine12 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The car's not for sale, but I'll post more clips of it in full day light (and less shakey camera!). This roof design was an option for '82 and '83, though I've only seen one other like it. The color was a mid-year introduction for '83 only.

It's beautiful.... right up until you get a little rainwater in the door, and your doors start autolocking themselves repeatedly and your dash gets REAL fucky.

(Seriously, the dash panel in these things were INSPIRED. And yet, they still found amazing ways to be hilariously bad. They could tell you your average gas mileage and predict how many miles you had until your tank was empty... But hoo boy, they'd find all SORTS of ways to glitch out.)

No, this top was an option for '82 and '83. I haven't seen very many Mark VI's that were ordered with it, though. The opera lamps are electroluminescent, not LED. I had to rebuild them as they burn out pretty easily. A lot of GM cars used these in the mid/late '80s.

Had a MkVI Bill Blass that had a Star Wars dash, great car if not a bit glitzy. The delay-headlights (doors) are a cute "Ta Da!"
@Nightbird.12 жыл бұрын
Forgot to add that you should avoid using the delayed headlamp feature -where you can park and leave your car and the headlamps will turn off after a few minutes. They are notorious for draining batteries, and did it to me more than once before I figured out what it was..lol.
@DearFatherAl Жыл бұрын
I have a 1983 Mark VI and trying to get this feature to work as well. 1. Ensure Auto Delay dial is set to mid position. 2. Ensure light knob is pulled out to full position where headlights are on. 3. Turn off ignition. 4. Lock doors from inside vs using keypad? 5. Headlights will turn off in about 30 secs and lids will close immediately afterwards? Is this what I need to do? Normally I lock all doors with keypad once all doors closed. Maybe that’s what I’m doing wrong…🙄

Hi, do you still have the 83 Mark VI? I've been looking for years to find a decent one with the specialty roof. Have the 83 roof option book- excellent. Have a 80 Mark VI Signature Series 4-door AND two-door and a 77 Mark V Givenchy. Let me know.

whats with the different top? custom deal? the opera lamps look led
@EbonyBunny16 жыл бұрын
It was a factory option on the 1980 - 1983 Mark VI's. It was called a Specialty Roof. I believe it was only available on the Signature models, it might have been offered on the base model as well, but it was not offered on the designer models. I have never seen one in person, only in the Lincoln brochures.
@onedollarphilistine6 жыл бұрын
It was offered on the base models, as well, and I've seen one or two base cars with the specialty roof in for sale ads, so they were a real thing. The specialty roof was only on years '82 and '83, at least going by the Lincoln brochures. They had other roof treatments available on various trim packages, though.

what edition is the car I've never seen the back seat windows like this?
@onedollarphilistine8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Freeman It's the optional "Specialty Coach Roof" that was offered only on coupes for 1982 and 1983. You don't see a lot of them, especially combined with the Signature Series trim. Interesting/odd roof, right?

@chivocruz79775 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah, the throttle body it comes with sucks.. I had a 81 town car that fuel injection system was bad n I have a 82 mark 6, am currently switching out the throttle body for a carburetor.. 80 to 84 are bad with the throttle body
