Miami holds the distinction of being the only team to shut out ND during the Ara Parseghian (0-0 in '65), Gerry Faust (20-0 here in '83) and Lou Holtz (24-0 in '87) eras. Blair Kiel got benched after this game in favor of freshman Steve Beuerlein.

Miami and Notre Dame were 2 programs going in different directions. Miami won Natty in 83. This was Notre Dame's best year with Faust. They still ended up 7-5 even with a Liberty Bowl win over Boston College.
