So crazy! Damn near every Husker starter on this team either went to the NFL or is in the Husker Hall of Fame. Majority are in the HoF and went to the NFL. Ahman Green had a 1k season as a Frosh and didn’t even start! Many of the 3rd stringers on this team were later incredible starters in 97 who won the NC and went to the league too!

No, we don't really miss them. We prefer the incredible levels of parity that exist today, versus back in the day with ridiculously dominant teams like this one. I recall working with a Florida fan who thought the Gators would slobber-knock Nebraska. I told him Weurful would be sacked at least seven times. Yep, that was the number at the end of the game. He claimed Nebraska couldn't run with the Florida receivers, I told him Weurful would need time to throw the ball. HAHA...that was funny. With the dominant defense, and the overpowering offense, Florida learned what it took to win a National Championship, not all "Fun and Gun," but a little balance. IMHO it was easily the most dominant championship game ever, considering when it was played. Finally, this Nebraska team is often selected as the greatest college football team ever.

In the 1971 "Game of the Century" between #1 Nebraska and #2 Oklahoma, Nebraska's star receiver and eventual first Heisman winner Johnny Rodgers not only opened the scoring by running a punt back 72 yards for a TD to open the scoring, he also puked at the end of the play due to how hard he ran to get that score!

In reference to Nebraska, as a Husker fan since the early 80's, they won't be "back" until they're winning no less than 9 games a season, making teams afraid to play them, being a consistent variable in the national championship discussion, being in the top 5 in running the ball, always being ranked, etc. Nebraska was so good for so long it became normal. Winning only 9 games in a season was a "bad" year. Not being ranked in the top 10 was a failure. But It can easily be argued that I'm spoiled and that my expectations are too high.

This just goes to show how insanely OP the 1995 Huskers were. This Florida team would have won the NC in an ordinary season (and most of them did go on to win the NC just a year later). The 95 Huskers would have done similar things to any hypothetical time-traveling "all time great" football team, including Husker teams from other seasons. One of their early season victories was a 50-10 road blowout of a Michigan State team coached by some guy named Nick Saban. The Huskers' depth was unbelievable, especially at running back. Despite losing Lawrence Phillips to suspension due to his criminal behavior, their bench was so deep that they didn't miss him that much on the field, as they had Clinton Childs, Damon Benning, James Sims and a true freshman named Ahman Green who ended up carrying most of the running back workload after Childs and Benning both got injured. While the star power was heavy all around for the Huskers, the real reason they were able to steamroll anyone they played and not only won all their games but won them overwhelmingly (they won every game by at least 14 points, were only outscored in a half of a game once...the second half of the K-State game due to the Wildcats scoring 3 TDs late once the game was already decided... and only trailed on three occasions the entire season, two of which were in the first quarter of this game) was because they were crushingly dominant in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Despite the fact that all but one of the starters from the NC winning 1994 O-line (nicknamed "The Pipeline") graduated and had to be replaced in 1995, the 95 line was actually BETTER! They gave up zero sacks on the season (though the fact that the Huskers of that era didn't pass nearly as often as most teams helped them accomplish that). The defensive line was just as terrifying for opposing teams, as the opponents' O-lines would get overwhelmed and shoved in all directions, opening gaps for linebackers like Terrell Farley and Jamel Williams to overwhelm the backs.

The old ball coach was hard headed going into this game and it was to late to repair that blitzing of Nebraska, one year later FSU def head man Micky A went to Nebraska to learn this def scheme and use it in 96, went 11-0 and beat Florida last game of the year. Florida stayed under center with their QB and changed to shotgun for the NT game in the rematch. Added a extra blocker and boom ball out quick and offense went for 52 pts. Old ball coach said after the game he should have done this for Nebraska, not saying he would have won the game but their offense would have had a chance to produce but he added our defense had no answer for Nebraska offense that was insane.

Tom Osborne was a great coach. He was way better prepared for this game than Spurrier was. The penalties for Florida was a lot and Spurrier drafted all now offensive plays for this game, rather than doing what worked for them all season long. Osbourne was a lot like Jimmy Johnson as well. His philosophy was a big O line and running the football, with an overpowering defense. Osbourne and Jimmy Johnson even rotated Defensive lineman the same way to keep the players energized and fresh, like JJ did with the Dallas cowboys in their back to back Super bowl wins, etc

@@junechris T.O. Was Nebraska’s OC from 1969. Calling plays for HC Bob Devaney in the Husker first back to back NC’s (70-71) Osborne to over as HC in 1973 but continued calling all the Huskers plays for the next 25 years. If there are any similarities it’s because Jimmy Johnson was a student of the game. T.O. Is the GOAT.

For all of Spurriers wins, for all his running up the scores, for all his stupid comments, not teaching his players how to play defense and for all his perceived domination the dude won ONE national title ( and needed Ohio St to upset ASU in the Rose Bowl to have a chance). The same as Gene Chizik, Larry Coker and Ed Orgeron. He wasn't in the same stratosphere as Tom Osborne. He had a gimmicky offense, no defense and would be shut down by teams that actually hit you and played fundamental football. He won the national championship the next year because he played a Florida State team that was all gimmicky too.

People say the 2001 Miami Hurricanes are the Greatest of all time. The problem with that is, they didn't have that good of a coach and he just road on Davis Team he built. While 1995 Huskers had Tom Osborne, I believe with the better coach. 95 Huskers beat Canes
@Canedude08
@Canedude08 2 ай бұрын
Osborne is better than than Coker, but the staffs aren’t all that different otherwise. Never mind the fact that the 2001 Canes would overwhelm Nebraska with superior talent. Miami would wear Nebraska down and break them. You can’t be one dimensional and beat the 2001 Canes.

This game caused Steve Spurrier to grow. It exposed the weaknesses of the fun n gun. The flaws are the lack of feature back and a passing game lacking structures routes. This can be negated by going to the shotgun instead of under center. But, a feature back allows a team to slow the game down. This can limit the other team's playbook indirectly and preserve a defensive line. Florida's offense took too much time to develop. It's a high risk-high reward offense and having a bad quarter like Florida did in the second quarter was ultimately fatal. It allowed Nebraska to win the time of possession battle, limit spurrier's playbook and Nebraska ran the ball down Florida's throat because of it. After this, at South Carolina in particular, he ran a more standard pro-style offense with a feature back
