I just bout one of these at a thrift store here in Brazil and it looks like I'll have to change the belt of the tape deck cause, although it plays a cassette (with some distortion), it suffers to fast forward or to rewind - if it does. Thanks for the video, it saved a lot of time here. Peace!

It might be the record / play switch, usually they can be restored with some contact cleaner spray, I’ve seen lots of issues from those getting dirty inside, that might bring back your right channel volume and fix the hum as well, sometimes just making it record a few times on a test tape will work by itself, the contacts may “self clean” from that alone.

Sometimes a faulty cassette tape can create too much drag, causing your cassette player to pop out of play. That’s only if it’s doing it with only certain cassette tapes. It could also be that the grease around the shafts of the gears ⚙️ is old, creating drag. At worst, it could be a worn, or damaged cassette player mechanism. A lot of these units used to have a Mabuchi motor, although I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ if this was the specific brand. Your friend, Jeff.

Yes, that’s pretty 😍 tricky, if the dial cord system is integrated into the cassette player mechanism. This is just me, but I’d just use this for the radio 📻. Again, your friend, Jeff.
