What most people dont get is that Boyd is about saying things that, if we are honest with ourselves, we've felt. He speaks to the devil in us.He just doesn't have that eternal, internal censor. We are afraid to feel unless it's in keeping with the modern accepted moral template. We want to say we understand love but we reject hate. Art is about emotion, not social codes. Or at least it once was. And let's not underestimate the power of irony.That's not to say that feelings must be acted upon.

@MSDOS128 Жыл бұрын
i wouldn't even consider consequences as a factor that bears any significance at all. since no one would be able to damage myself as much as I would've done to billions, in such a case; and also because economy isn't predicated on anything but the current capacity for production and consumption, taking future in which one of those ceases into account isn't immediately profitable and thus will lead to systemic collapse, eventually. think through the implications and you will see that more and more things that people pay money for become/are redundant, speculative and of no intrinsic worth at all. thus, it could very well be a favor to humanity to do such a thing, given some very specific conditions are met

All the haters - you aren't thinking hard enough about the lyrics nor are you giving Boyd enough credit. Yeah, the point is that he's whining about how many pet peeves he has about people - starting with things that are easy to relate to and escalating to the point where you're like "uhh, wait, what?" He's parodying the person that you were when you agreed with the first few parts of the song, at the end of the song. "Look how slippery the slope of hating people is." That's all...
@JohnDoe-qe4ih7 ай бұрын
No, it’s not a parody lol. You’re doing mental gymnastics to avoid the point. The lyrics mean what they say. Boyd is a fascist social Darwinist who unironically believes that most people are not worth of life.

It's even more nuanced than that: he's both celebrating that attitude, and parodying it (because as you say, it becomes absurd when taken to its logical conclusions). He's also provoking a reaction from the types of alleged adults who've never questioned the kind of values they were conditioned with as children, regardless of their own inconsistent application of them.

I think this is important, artistically It's a sort of anti-pop. Rather than being generalized, saccharine and sterile, this is a specific statement, a bitter, resentful statement, lacking in super slick production quality. Pop is known for it's basic, universal melodies, and basic, universal themes. Save for the rhythm in th background, one could hardly call this a melody, or even a conventional song, more like a spoken word poem with some music in the background to set the tone. It's themes are nihilistic, full of hate, and while the lyrics themselves aren't very complex, it's... Well, it's one thing to understand what someone's saying. It's another thing entirely to intuitively grasp why someone be saying things like this in the first place. I think Boyd does at least halfway believe what he's saying in this song, and by extension, in other things he's said. But I think another half of his almost absurdly negative (as many would describe "edgy") presentation is pure spiteful reaction, going that extra mile to spit in the face of a world he maybe came into wanting to love, but found he couldn't help but hate eventually.

To truly understand this track you also have to have been a 90s twenty something. While not all agreed with the undertones in his work, many alternative lifestyle types related to the anger and frustration he was experiencing with mainstream doctrine - whatever it was. Some of Boyds shit was over the top (especially his tone) but some of it was so subtle that it gave credibility to his work. All these years later, especially given recent American events, this track still is relevant.

Do you ever think about What a lovely place the world would be Without all the people That make life so unpleasant? All the small, petty people All the ugly, annoying people It's hard not to think about it I like to think about What could be Done to these people Something cruel Something mean Something just But the meaner the better Goodness knows they deserve it Have you ever dreamed of Killing all the stupid people? Not just the unintelligent people But the sort that don't know anything about anything But seem to have opinions about everything They're only too ready to offer their advice about How to run your life And yet look at how they run their own lives For the most part they've accomplished nothing They've contributed nothing Their lives are miserable But they talk, talk, talk… At the very least their tongues should be cut out At the very least Do you ever wanna Kill all the people who tell lies? Some certainly deserve it Not necessarily the big liars Or even those who teach lies as truth I'm talking about people Who say one thing and do another Or who tell you they sent something express mail When you know they haven't Did you ever want to Kill all the slow people in the world? The people who are in front of you When they should be behind you A crime that the swift should be help back by the slow And it's criminal that nothing is going to rectify it And what about all the really ugly people? Add them to the list as well Some people try not to think about life's ugliness I've thought about it I've thought about it quite a lot Something should be done to these people Something to make them suffer The way they've made us suffer I say, bring back the Circus Maximus For starters Unless these weeds are dealt with They'll poison everything They are poisoning everything We need a gardener A brutal gardener A thorough, thoughtful gardener An iron gardener Whatever happened to Vlad the Impaler? Where's Genghis Kahn when you need him? Or Roi d'Ys? Ayatollah Khomeini? Adolf Hitler? Benito Mussolini? Nero? Diocletian? Kitchener? Come back! Come back!
