Puica was winning this no matter what. I would have enjoyed seeing Decker’s theatrics if she didn’t fall and lost fair and square....God this was great

Decker would've blew past her easily if she wouldn't have gotten tangled up with Budd.

This was one of those races in the which the defeated athletes were more remembered than the winner. Knowing this, I made sure that I'd remember the name of the winner, Maricica Puica, for the rest of my life. 😉😊

Runners have fell and got up & won in the Olympics like Mo Farah & Lasse Viren. Decker had 4 laps to catch up. She gave up

Decker was right, boycotting the '80 Olympics in Moscow did nothing but deprive USA athletes from having the chance to compete. It was just politics, nothing to do the athletic competition.

Decker would have destroyed Puica, like she did in 85 when they met and like she destroyed the world of best eastern block at the world championships in 83. I watched Mary very closely back in the 80's and she was a monster, the most talented female middle distance runner ever. Only those numerous injuries could stop her.

So unfair to Zola . A 17 year old girl trying to find out about who she is and getting booo because of Pre Madona . Mary Decker is the one brought her down . Zola was in front . So wrong

The US commentary is a disgrace and so too was the reaction of the crowd. Budd clearly did not move in. Anyone can see that. If anything Slaney moved ever so slightly off line towards Budd. It was an accident caused by inexperience. Slaney later admitted as much.

Yeah, Marty blew the call. Zola was running a straight line, and Mary pinched her twice from behind. Not Zola’s fault at all. And Marty kept blaming Zola’s ‘inexperience.’

@@belvert1 Liquori later admitted that he had blown the call and phoned his producer to that effect, but he didn't go on the air and issue a big mea culpa right then and there during the coverage. He said in later years he regretted that.

@@epaddon The day after the race, he was on air with Al Michaels and admitted he was wrong when he stated Budd was at fault.
