90's GT RTS Retro Mountain Bike Build - Rock Shox, Hope, Syncros, Deore XT, Mavic

I had a 1993 RTS 2 with a RS Mag 21 that I rode in Moab, Utah in 1994. I actually rode the Portal solo on it, loved that bike. Two years later I found a crack on one of tabs the rocker pivoted on and GT was going to warranty the frame. Lucky for me, someone at GT lost my frame, and they sent me a 1996 Team RTS. I rode that bike for 6 yrs until the seat tube cracked along the edge of the weld at the seat stay pivot. GT wouldn't warranty or repair it that time because they were owned by Pacific then. Beautiful build, I would bet that is a 1996-97 frame. The Team frame I had was the burnished aluminum with a Noleen piggyback shock, which I still have in my parts bin. Once again, great job.

Thanks for your comments. Unlucky they lost your frame but nice that they sent you a Team! Shame it ended up cracking though... :-( I think the old full suspension RTS where quite problematic with cracks.. The last one I did had cracked pivots and we tried to buy a donor bike to use the rear end and it had exactly the same problem. Got a part in the end though and praying it stays in one piece! I have another GT coming up soon...

The bottom bracket shell width is 73mm and British threads but the axle length will be dependent on what crankset you are fitting 👍🏻
