Beautiful boat and excellent job on the restoration. I am also in South Florida and owned a 13 Whaler for 12 years, and then a 17 like yours (a 1994) for 29 years. Bought both new. They are the best boats, but the 17 classic is the best of the best. It is light, but strong, and extremely versatile, and you can stand up in it to con it. I have the rear seat in mine and the bow cushion. It is like a mini-van. I have had seven people in it comfortably for cruising or going to a sand bar like you, yet I can trailer it anywhere, and it fits in my garage. Fishing, cruising, diving, or just hanging out. And you show what shallow water you can navigate through. I have had mine out into the Gulf Stream a number of times as well. And it is very good on gas. No complaints. I hope you enjoy it for many more years. And you will likely sell it for more than you have in it.

Great job awesome, I have a 1970 17' or 16'7" Boston Whaler nauset, have issues with Mercury 4 stroke Bigfoot motor, anyway since sitting in driveway it needs some TLC but hoping when cleaned and a little touch up with paint, hoping it comes out looking even half as good as yours.

Seeing the change in each video from when you bought the boat and began the project to now is incredible. You did a great job restoring the teak. You had the kids involved too; a great family project. Fair winds and following seas to you and your family.

It looks awesome! You definitely look like you can put at least 16 Belenites in tangas on there. I know that’s why you built it…😜 Great Job!

I would recommend that you replace the rear Bimini top straps with stainless support poles with stainless fittings (you can use quick release hinge to quickly lower it completely). That will allow you to fold the top into a boot and keep it upright. It can stay up but inside its boot.

Great set of videos. We did add a narrow 3 step ladder to the Left rear for getting in because I hate the over the rail ladders. It works well.

NICE JOB ! I love seeing other classic Whalers come back to life. I helped my girlfriend do a rebuild & repower on her 1990 Montauk last year. Since you asked......I would suggest a nice stereo, amp, speakers on the sides of the console with LED's. 4 additional LED's on the corners of the console facing front and back. The LED's are great at night. And Lastly.. a DUAL BETTERY setup with an automatic charging relay ( ACR ) & an onboard battery tender. ALL of the accessories run off of a Deep Cell House Battery so that the Starting Battery is ONLY used for starting the motor. With the ACR & Battery tender you're guaranteed that your batteries are always in tip top shape.

Thank you for the comments and ideas. We thought about radio and two batteries but my budget ran well over. The boat will primarily be used by my boys so i got them a blue-tooth radio. later on they can add a system. I did my part. Also i am using a solar powered battery charger which seems to do the job.

Add a nice swim ladder to the transom. Martin Marine makes one specifically for the Montauk. I have one on my Montauk and love the functionality of it.

I plan in putting that same one in this winter. The only thing holding me back is I don’t want to put any more holes in the boat. Definitely needs one thiugh

What hp what was the top speed of this setup?
@gjaleman Жыл бұрын
What you mean. It’s 90 hp engine. Top speed is 42mph at around 5500 rpm
@anthonykontos7931 Жыл бұрын
@@gjaleman can you put a big horse power motor on it? I found a similar boat thinking about buying it.
@gjaleman Жыл бұрын
@@anthonykontos7931 it’s rated max 115hp. It’s really all about weight on the transom. This particular boat is 40 years old. I wouldn’t put anything more and add stress to an already old transom.
@ronvanb19 ай бұрын
Are the 90 and 115 the same size and weight? I thought on the Mercury it’s just a difference in tuning. I just bought a project Boston Whaler. I’m not even sure if it’s a Montauk or a modified Super Sport. It’s a 1983. Where did you get the faux teak flooring?
