The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.

When we wanted NASCAR to go to Nashville…..we meant here not the SuperSpeedway
@timbliss98923 ай бұрын
They will be going to the Fairgrounds soon. They just needed time to update the facilities to modern day standards. But they wanted to rebuild the interest in the market which is why they're racing at Nashville Superspeedway until the Fairgrounds is deemed ready.

Karens and "booming real estate markets" also are preventing it.

Why not one race each? Super speedway has had decent racing the the next gen.
@gavinwavy91323 ай бұрын
The next gen will put on a terrible short track race and everyone will blame the track
@MrJohansen3 ай бұрын
The next gen cars would race awful here. Besides, the big track is good and provides good racing, and it should have been on the cup schedule all along. Not saying the short track is bad, just saying the big track is good too and has always belonged on the cup schedule. Idk why they waited until 2021 to add it

Buick And Chevrolet Dominated NASCAR Winston Cup Series From The 80s And Early 90s
@SaabJitsu3 ай бұрын
Chevy did very well, Buick and Olds made the podium in the early 80s, late 80s and early 90s were when Ford, Million dollar Bill, Davey and Robert Yates and the Wood brothers kinda spoiled the party.

I was in the stands for this race. With about 10 laps remaining Mr. Warner Hogden walked to the railing of the boxed seats right next to me. Nice shirt & cufflinks etc. but when his 2 Johnson/Hodgen team cars (Waltrip & Bonnett) came barreling out of the 4th turn for that chaotic finish, Mr. Hodgden was banging his fist on that railing & yelling just like any other passionate NASCAR fan.

I'm glad good footage exists of a race with Darrell in his prime. Yea, we remember him for his goofiness as an announcer but I think new fans forget just how good he was for so long. Him and Dale going at it at the beginning of the race is cool to see.
@SaabJitsu3 ай бұрын
Agreed! When he was in Jr's cars they were a problem for the field every week.

You think this is cool, and it is, but watch the Spring Richmond race in 1986!! Also an obscure Waltrip-Earnhardt battle is in the 1979 World 600. Both are fantastic.

Man, I didn't get to see ole Neil win too often but he plum drove his butt off on this night hell he earned that victory. I'm sure Junior didn't give a shit if it was Darrell & Bonnett, all he knew was that one of his cars won that sumbytch...

2:38:15 Benny Parsons (and the whole of NASCAR) misinterprets the rule “when the yellow flag displays DURING the white flag lap”. By vision, the yellow flag and white flag displayed at the same time. But when they say “during”, they really mean “during the last lap”, not “during the waving of the white flag”. The caution flag flew the lap before the white flag lap, meaning that the field should have held position and given Waltrip the win, not Bonnett. They eventually rectify this, but not during the broadcast.

Darrell got screwed here. Benny had it right originally and then confused himself and misinterpreted the rule when he read the rule book. He did know that rule existed because he knew Darrell won originally.. The rule book said "when the yellow flag has been displayed DURING the white flag lap all cars will be scored (at the checkered flag)". This is true, but this is not what happened. The yellow flag was waved BEFORE the leader received the white flag. When the leader crossed the line and received the white flag, the yellow was also waving. Therefor the caution is out and the last lap was run under caution. Darrell is the winner. The caution lights around the track turned on as the leader went in to turn one on the last lap, but the flag is the official word. The last lap was run under caution and Darrel is the winner. Upon further research, 48 hours after the race ended, Darrell was credited as the winner as he should be. Interestingly, you can see that Rusty ends up passing Petty about 30 feet before the start finish line after petty spun in turn 4 on the last lap (which was under caution). The official results have rusty in 6th and petty in 7th so Wallace was given the spot even though the pass was under caution. My guess is that they either they were focused on who won and didn't pay attention to that pass or that since petty spun on the last lap (under caution) they just listed him as last car on the lead lap.

All these old races..its like they're from a different planet. The legendary drivers, colors,tracks and cars. I realize things change. But damn its like I've been a rock/metal musician for 40+ years and its not only that things aren't the same, who is replacing the old legends? Nobody...Same with racing....jeez its just an entirely different thing now, not some updated version. Its not just 'nothing is the same', its not nearly as good🤷♂️🤷♂️

One of the greatest short tracks in the country. I'd highly recommend checking out the ARCA series when it's here and the All American 400 late model race. The " super speedway" is a joke AND NOT EVEN IN NASHVILLE! Branding is why it's called Nashville Super Speedway even though it's 3 towns east and 30+ miles away. From the fairgrounds, you're 10 minutes from Broadway if that long. The nostalgia in Nashville is being pushed aside for gentrification, branding and maximum profits. Just look at downtown Broadway, it's a preview of what's to come downtown. No more history, just brands. Shame.

Racing back to the checkered flag during a white flag/caution, you mean you have to race back around to the checkered flag with wrecked cars and debris all over it? 🤔
