Hendrick Racing came out with a special model of Schrader’s win in this race. Just received it today and watched this again. Schrader has always been my favorite driver 🏁

Anyone notice the car spinning behind Mayfield in the distance with that four car pile up?

Sorry, but cars from back in the day were 100 times more beautiful and stylish than today. The paint schemes were so badass and cool! the cars of 88 was the most beautiful and stylé cars in nascar !! and my schema favorite was the stavola brother snickers run by rick wilson and dick trickle in 90/91/92. here the car of benny parson the bull eyes was so magnifique the red baron also was cool. It's sad for Tim, what happened. He was such an amazing driver.

GM favoritism in full gear with Chevy being allowed to use the slant nose Chevelle Laguna Type S-3......essentially an aero special just for NASCAR......the Olds 442 slant nose then replaced it later in the 70s once the S3 was retired.

I never understood why they didn't have the ESPN crew doing this race and ESPN covering it instead of this terrible tape delay recorded terrible announcing crew doing this race.

I attended the '68 Firecracker 400. My grandfather lived in Daytona Beach Shores. That record average speed (167mph+) stood for a good number of years

If Richard at the time would have knew how to draft low and then high down the straightaways back in those days and broken the draft Pearson would have never gotten close enough for that to have happened !

500 miles with a 3,700lb stock car on on bias-ply tires and with no power steering. Back when you had to be a man to race in NASCAR.

what a disaster of a race. the danger nascar is willing to put their drivers in is insane.
@Dikran-l7e11 күн бұрын
I am a new nascar fan. I am doing lots of research trying to learn the sport. Clearly, like many other sports, nascar events are rigged. In the past, a car that caused a caution would be penalized a lap. In this race, dale has no chance of winning until a caution that is caused by his own teammate. After the reset, earhardt beats labonte. There are so many troubling inconsistencies in the careers of earhardt and some other notable drivers. The southeastern 500 in 1979 was held in torrid heat in September of 1979 in south Carolina not Tennessee. It was won by earhardt's teammate because dale was suffering from an injury. Amazingly, the name of the SC track was Bristol

Watching this race made me realize that I think at that time more people knew the names of these NASCAR drivers then they did the names of the original 7 NASA astronauts.
