1984 Dodge mini ram van new Dodge Caravan nos Chrysler

1984 "new" Dodge Mini-Ram (Caravan)= The story goes.......Lockhart Motors that sold Chrysler and Dodge or years had a few 80s vehicles that never sold. We this is one of them. 73 actual miles. More of the personal story I will ad later of the history. It just sold 9/4/2014 for 7500.00 at the Mecum Auto auction.

This is incredible! Great find I love it. Off the floor new. I have a 1987 Dodge Royal Mini Ram van (cargo) that has 249k miles. Orig engine, 2nd 3-spd trans. 3.0L Mitsu eng. Still running well!

I wish they still made cars with as much space and comfort as this. Being in europe the cars are so small and I've spent some time driving/using an econoline 1992 e250 and even that was a joy! I'd take one of these over an SUV almost anyday

I've seen this exact van (along with some of the others shown - and some that aren't shown) in person. I moved to Lockhart a couple years before this video was made and lived less than a half mile from the old Lockhart Dodge dealership. I had fallen for the Daytona. They were cool time machines, but the original dealer owner indeed wanted way way too much for the vehicles he had. In many cases he was wanting $8,000-$14,000 ($10K-$18K today) for what were 20 year old vehicles. They may have had low miles, but I suspect much of the rubber items (belts, gaskets, seals, ect) would have to be replaced before they were driveable - and that could have ran into the thousands.

Yes Blanca......i tried to buy it numerous times and the dealer wouldn't come off the price. i was only offering 7k. then the guy who bought it from the dealers family as a lot with 4 others stuck it on craigslist, and again i offered 7k, he wouldn't take it, so he takes it to Mecum and I bid 7k, it went to 7500.00 and sold, but the seller only walked away with 6900.00!!!! so he should have sold it to me.

I just bought a 1987 Plymouth Voyager with 107,000 miles on it. Still looks really good, paid $4200 for it. Not even sure why I had to have it! It was the 96th car I have bought in my life.

Mark III used the Ram version of the caravan because it was a delivery van version. Smart as the Caravan passenger came with seats, ect. You could order these just as rolling chassis. Neat. Probably a 2.2 or 2.6 4 cylinder.

1:06 Today the dealer wanted $10,000-$12,000 for it and would never come off the price. That must be why that dealer in Lockhart never sold it in 1984 for the $7500. He would never come off the price then either. Instead he kept it in inventory for 32 years!

Depended on the trim level. We had an ‘86 Votager LE with power locks as part of a power & convenience package. IIRC it also had power opening vent windows in the back. You twisted a knob in the ceiling to open or close each vent window.

It was one of Lee Iacocca's ideas he brought over to Chrysler after he was fired from Ford. At the time Ford's chairman refused to build it and said it would not sell. Boy was he wrong. When it launched in 1984, Chrysler had a hit. It sold very well, and Ford and GM were scrambling to get a mini van to market. Also at the time when it launched many automotive experts said there was so much demand that was not seen in the auto industry since Ford launched the Mustang in 1964. Iacocca was the person who was involved in both vehicles. Chrysler's mini Van's were Iacocca's revenge for his firing from Ford. He got even, and turned Chrysler into a profitable company at the time.

Only has 71 miles because it’s so ugly nobody wanted to drive it. We had a blue dodge van similar to this and it was ugly as well but was a nice driver but had no horsepower.

Ugly? That was the style in 84, for the conversion van manufacturers. And it was never for sale. The dealer kept a couple of vehicles every year to keep. He had 12 unsold, brand new vehicles with no miles in his collection.
