My father bought a Town & Country van in February 1990. His was exactly identical to the one shown here, though equipped with the new 3.3 litre V6. In 1990 they were only available in 2 exterior colours, white or black. The outer wood grain was standard as was the brown leather interior. My father hung on to his Town & Country van for 17 years.

The 1989 models (with the Mitsubishi 3.0L V-6 engine) are even rarer since out of 1789 total units produced during calendar-year 1989, much of those were for the 1990 models, making the model-year 1989 version very rare.
@wranglersnmt10 жыл бұрын
ClassicTVMan1981X Incorrect, there is no 1989 model year. Some moron just changed Wiki to say there was and that's wrong. Chrysler released them ALL as 1990 model year only. FYI you can still find info for my van at Chrysler dealerships in computer system using VIN......all 1990 model. Looks like Chrysler was initially going to call it a 1989 but decided to go with 1990 when released. Pretty common practice for automakers.

Excuse me, I was planning on getting a car like this. Right now, I was trying to find out how to program a car remote made for classic cars into this car before I buy it. I'll tell you the brands of car remotes made for classic cars. Universal car remote classic (for cars made in 1989-2002) Voxx Electronics replacement car remote classic (for cars made in 1989-2002) Those car remotes are easier to install and you don't need tools for that, just follow the directions they give you and you'll start using that remote.
@JonyIveDesignsThings10 жыл бұрын
Date 5/89 means this van was originally a 1989 model. As the month is close to the one that 1990 were first made, it was changed for an unknown reason. There are no "early production" 1990 models, they came in when the 89 went out. "True" 1990 has 3.3, 1989 or "Originally 1989 1990" have 3.0 No, this is not a cheapened-out display model either or a converted Caravan/Voyager, this is a strange one. The T&C Was not a "1 year" model as everyone thinks. Even the US government acknowledges a 1989 model which has a 3.0 as the sole engine.
@ClassicTVMan1981X10 жыл бұрын
I found a brochure for the 1989 T&C on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/1989-Chrysler-Town-and-Country-Van-1-page-Car-Dealer-Sales-Brochure-Sheet/310885897217?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29310%26meid%3D9d034eb9ce9f4a219ec915978513259b%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D310888496182&rt=nc Even with the uncovered short '89 model year and the full '90 model year, at a total of 5404 units, the first-gen T&C minivan remains a rarity.
@wranglersnmt10 жыл бұрын
Incorrect they were all 1990 model year only. I'm not sure why the question.....manufacturers can and do practice this ALL the time. Just last year Chrysler refreshed the Grand Cherokee and called it a 2014 model year in Feb of 2013, yet the Durango which is on the same line remained a 2013 through August of 2013.......very very common practice. My van was and has always been a 1990 model as recognized by Chryslers own computer and parts system.
@JonyIveDesignsThings10 жыл бұрын
the question is because of finding the brochure…
@wranglersnmt10 жыл бұрын
Michael Cui I have that brochure, means nothing at all......Chrysler may have been planning it as a 1989 introduction but ultimately called them ALL 1990 models. If you doubt me stop buy a Chrysler dealership and have them look up parts for one.....there is NO 1989 model year Town and Country period!
@seanray101610 жыл бұрын
sorry but Wranglersnmt is right, there is no 1989 model for the Town & Country, this body style is and was always a 1990. Being built in 5/89 does not make it an '89. Basic internet searches on Chrysler history will show this. And also you can't go by what any (state) governmental entity says. I had a 2000 Nissan Xterra that was built in 8/99, the state of NY called it a '99, even though Nissan and the rest of the world called it a 2000!

thats a little shocking that V6 isnt eating oil. The 3.3 V6 was better in every imaginable way. My parents owned a 89 that drank a quart every trip it seems after about 130k. It started spitting oil out of the tail pipe and my parents basically gave it away. The '95 was much, much nicer with the 3.3 and LE trim. They owned that one until 2002. That one appears to run like a top.
