A predecessor to the SVO. The non-turbo 2.3 only made 88hp so that boost is necessary. It's amazing to see so much space in that steering wheel so you can really see that plastic dashboard. I think the GM F-bodies of the same era had a similar aircraft-inspired dashboard with fake bolts and panels. The info center is from when LEDs were still new so Ford wanted to show them off. This was an unusual one to save but I'm glad the owners did.
@plmn93 Жыл бұрын
I had a 1980 2.3 and yeah, it was pretty much foot to the floor all the time. It did, however, handle better than my later '84 5.0 thanks to so much less weight in front.

Also Hp is wrong, it was 145 for the turbo Gts, 175 for the 84-5 SVO, and 205 for 85.5-6 SVO and the turbo coupes had 195 for stick cars.
@plmn93 Жыл бұрын
That 2.3 Turbo is only 145HP vs 175 in the 5.0, so that's why it didn't sell well. The exposed screw heads are fake. I had an '84 GT 5.0 manual so this was fun to watch. The seats in this are actually sportier than mine were but the rest is much the same.

My grandfather had a 1993 Fox body Mustang 2.3 when i was a young boy. What a project it definitely was but it introduced me to the thrill of open-top, wind-in-the-hair motoring. We still have memories of ours every time we see one or drive past a Target store. We drove ours to a Target, left the top down as our AC system needed recharged. We were in there for HOURS, as it was time for our monthly shopping spree. We got out and its pouring rain, so hard that we or anyone couldn't see the cars in the handicap spaces. And there is my grandfather, face looking as if he saw a ghost and we get to our Mustang. I couldnt help but say "Hey, Pop. We don't need to see Finding Nemo, I found him." I was maybe 5. But it started up with no hesitation and (being cold, smelling of wet dog and with no heat) got us home.

My first car, back in 1989, was a 1984 Mustang GT Turbo. Mine was a batchback in charcoal gray. Mine had the metric TRX rims. Even back then there was only one brand, Michelin, who made tires in size 390.

My 1984 Ford Bronco II XLT that I bought used in 1986 had that exact same warning lamp display (the wire image of the vehicle with the red and amber bulbs) for the lights, fuel and low fuel; except, in the Bronco II it was a part of the center console and not connected to the dash. If you push the stem button in the upper left, it's the test button and all the lights will illuminate.

I've always loved Mustangs, especially the Fox-body flavor. My twin brother is a die hard Mustang buff; he told me that when the Ford Probe first came out, it was going to replace the Mustang, but the 'Mustang Department' at Ford didn't want it replaced with a 4 cyl. front wheel drive...now an electric SUV is a different story, I guess?
@bamboosho0t Жыл бұрын
I miss the Ford Probe V6. It’s amazing that you do not see them on the road anymore. Or its cousin, the Mazda MX-6. I remember Ford wanted the Probe to replace Mustang as the future “pony” car. It’s funny looking back, but Porsche tried the same thing with the 928 to replace the iconic 911.

Actually this car only made 145 hp, hence not feeling that quick. Only the SVO got the intercooler and extra boost that gave it 175-205 hp depending on the year. Also, those bolts on the dash are not real. The whole front panel is one piece of molded plastic made to mimic classic aircraft instrument panels, which I think is as cool as hell.
