I still don't understand why Sam Bowie was picked ahead of Jordan

It was a big man game back then and up until that point, a team hadn't won a championship with a guard being the main component of the team. The 72 Lakers while the scoring was Jerry West and Gail Goodrich, the focus was still Wilt. The 76 Celtics had Hondo Havlicek but Dave Cowens was the guy. So yeah, the thinking was still you needed a big man first.

The celtics had won two up to this point without a franchise centet

@@zt1053 when?? The Celtics were blessed with Bill Russell in the late 50s-60s, Dave Cowens in the 70s, and Robert Parish in the 80s. They've always had a franchise center during their reign.

Portland already had Drexler and needed a center. Clyde was a Jordan type player and it wasn’t apparent yet that Jordan would be the GOAT. He was just a blue chip prospect at the time.

@@MusicManSeanB I’m talking about the Celtics of the 80s. Larry bird was the reason they won those two championships not Robert Parish
