Run & Skip was a talented and tough jumper who was on the small side in stature but had an immense heart to match his ability. It was a real pleasure to see once again his great performance in this race and Peter Scudamore's brilliant riding, too.

Run and Skip. My Fave racehorse ever. I had £5 on him at 14-1 in this race so it paid for a lot of beers in the lead up to xmas. I loved his fighting spirit

Plenty of good old favourite stayers here including Kumbi & Peaty Sandy. In the 80s horses used to run in this and the Gold Cup in the same season. Now it hardly ever happens. Sir Peter mentioned that a jockey was putting up 19lb overweight. How did he ever get offered the ride?

I suspect that was Mr Holbrooke or someone similar. Family owned. Need to double check but ran in the Gold Cup in 1985. 19lb o/w is ridiculous vanity

23lb overweight is the most Ive seen and the horse won, In this case the horse was a family connected horse. In the other case it was Macolm Batters who was a 6'3 amateur jockey and stable lad on Martinstown who was called up very late on the day after he had celebrated New Years day with b pinms and curries. The horse was raised in the handicap and never won again

I remember Martinstown winning with a lot of overweight. I think Charlotte Brew might have ridden him in the Grand National.
