SAFFA here, I didn't watch the full game yet, but I'm hugely impressed with Ireland's skill levels, especially with finding gaps and breaking through. This is truly beautiful rugby. Too often I watch our Springboks trying to run over the opposition rather than creating and utilising space.

@@baruchhashem49 Casey is a huge loss and Nash is pretty unlucky to not be there instead of Hansen. I think I was mainly getting at - when things aren't going right like the QF - these lads show up and everyone except for Dan Sheehan and maybe Beirne go missing/need to be pulled along. Obviously most of them are fantastic generational talents and we are really lucky to have them. And I guess it's a lot more complex than I'm making out, it's just something I've noticed when the pressure is really on

@Rugby-union-and-sports 2 of the teams from the Six Nations are in the top 5. 5 of them are in the top 10. Imagine if theres a championship like this in the African continent, it would be a disaster. No one watches because it would be less competitive. Same case with the All Blacks and the Oceania. Again a great competition involves teams who are world class, competitive and a great support system from their fans. Right now this is the only rugby competition that has all of that.

No, it didn't at all. Ireland entered England's 22 5 times in first half, only scored once. The 4 times they didn't score were a series of unforced errors. For years now England teams haven't played with any spontaneity. Everything seems so rehearsed, that's why we can't break down good defences. It doesn't look like it is going to change under Borthwick. Even while we were ahead Ireland looked more dangerous, they were just making too many mistakes. I always felt once they put that right they would break us down, and they did. One thing that did peeve me was the referee: he clearly told both captains that the next player to run in after an incident would be sent off. So why didn't he send Lowe off after he had a go at Cunningham-South? Shortly afterwards he set up both tries that put Ireland clear. Even so, Ireland were clearly the better side.
@canadiancontent352
@canadiancontent352 6 күн бұрын
Full disclosure I’m an Ireland supporter but this think the ref considered the situation, a somewhat dangerous tackle in the air, and gave Lowe some leeway. What annoys me about England is that they just seem they don’t want to play rugby. They want to sit back and smash the opponent. They’ve got great athletes who can unlock a game but they seemed to be handcuffed. Be better for the game overall if they played more with the ball rather than focus on physical dominance

@johnnyshinnichi1785 6 күн бұрын
@@canadiancontent352 Fair enough. I agree with what you say about the England team. I'm a Quins supporter so I love Marcus Smith, but he isn't the same player for England. That can only be down to Borthwick. You can tell what type of Rugby he prefers from his time at Leicester, but that won't cut it at international level. He needs to let Marcus do whatever he wants, and to put players in there who can anticipate what he's going to do, that's how he opens up defences at Quins. Also, Borthwick's been there three years now and he's still doesn't know what his team is. I guarantee he will still be messing about with the team when we get to the next World Cup, that's what all recent England coaches have done.

No question Borthwick has got England being consistently competitive, however they aren't winning enough of the tight matches. Since, and including, the WC semi final he's had 13 matches against traditional Tier 1 nations winning only 4 while losing 9. Pretty much all of them close in score. Those 4 wins have an average score of 23-21 to England while the 9 losses have an average score of 27-23 in favour of the opposition. It really is fine margins at the elite level of sport. Great contests at least.

@@benhicks9481 That's the problem with coaches like Borthwick: They keep hanging on to the players they know will get steady results now, instead of being brave and building for the future. Look how poorly Clive Woodward''s England team did when he first took over. But he had picked new players with natural rugby brains and developed them into the best team in the world. I can't see Borthwick doing that.

Crowley's our 10. He was our 10 when Sexton retired, proved himself beyond all our expectations in at the deep end, had a dip in form upon returning from the RWC and during the Autumn internationals, had his head melted with the leftfield IRFU/Leinster-led debate about whether IRE should play Frawley or Prendergast (Frawley's been ignored and cast away like dogshit over what was pretty much a single poor performance), and has again proven that he is, for now at least, a more dependable, less anxious, physically stronger 10 for Ireland. Remove the tiresome Leinster v Munster narrative that's taking place around Jack Crowley and Sam Prendergast, and recognize Crowley as the better option as our Fly-half to start for this Six Nations. Give Sam the time he needs to grow in every sense, and start Jack at 10.

An enjoyable game. How ironic that the 3 Irish/ New Zealand players who were All Black rejects ( considered not good enough ) were so influential for Ireland. Congratulations to them and Ireland. Technically correct decision. Instead of blaming the ref for making a technically correct decision regarding an action I will freely admit had no material impact on the game, blame the player for doing something stupid. Itoje clearly makes deliberate contact. Was it enough contact to actually interfere with the play? No (aside from the normal niggly stuff of head games, distracting people and putting players off their game). If you're going to commit a deliberate foul, commit. (That's not an endorsement of deliberate fouls, just a realistic recognition of if you're going to foul, make sure there's a positive outcome for your team if you get away with it.)

They tired, having put in a helluva defensive shift in the first half. But while they defended excellently while still a cohesive unit, once the game started to open up, the individual defensive frailities in the backs especially were horribly exposed. It's all very well being able to run like the wind, or dominate in the air, but if you can't make a tackle one on one, then it's not going to go well. And some of what was on show, explains why some of the bigger Prem teams had such big scores put on them in Europe.
