I love this interview--thank you Videowave and thank you, Internet! In the Fall of 1986, I was in my dorm at UCSB and a guy a few doors down was really into metal, and he gave me Land Speed Record and Flip Your Wig because they weren't really the metal to which he was accustomed. I didn't have a turntable at the time, but I was playing New Day Rising on my cassette player while "studying," until I noticed a girl outside my window trying to get my attention (to turn down the noise). At that time, I had no idea as to the meaning of their name...it's so interesting the Scandinavian (Norwegian Board Game) connection to their hometown...without means to read many interviews and without KZbin, it would have been really difficult if not impossible to discover the meaning. The first Lush singles and LP were very Husker Du inspired, though coming out of the 'shoegazer' movement, it's nice to see/hear that Husker Du cast a long shadow.

Bob and Grant just shat out amazing songs in their time with Husker Du. Two great songwriters like that must inevitably part ways. I don't think its mad to compare them to Lennon and Mcartney in that way

I've never been there, but I gotta hand it to the Twin Cities, they really punched above their musical weight class in the '80s. Between indie acts like Husker Du, the Replacements, and Soul Asylum not to mention Prince and his whole scene, seemed like a great place for music.

I'm a massive Husker Du fan and had no idea this footage existed. They're clearly well into their drug zone with Greg chuckling to himself, Grant spaced out to oblivion, and Bob, with his piercing intelligence, keeping the interview moving. What an amazing band and great to see this early footage, although sad that they are not on the right side of their drugs issues.

Grant, your teeth.... Why? Ps. Good effort, interviewer. Sit down interviews with punk bands are not easy, especially if the band acts too cool for the interview, picking apart everything you say just to sound like a rebel. At least these guys are decent enough to take the interview seriously👍

@@void0094 either he has a mouthfull of peanut butter, or he's got rotten, browned out infected teeth... Drugs maybe? Or maybe he hates brushing & flossing? Can you imagine being his gf, waking up to HIS morning shit breath? No disrespect, I just don't get why someone would let this happen to their teeth at such a young age. John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers went on a 6 year drug bender & had to have all his teeth fixed, removed or not it was around $70,000 or so... The Rockstar drug scene is scary. But it's not clear to me whether this is what caused Grant's teeth to be so hideous
