What a gem! Should be in a museum. Wish they still made them

*_Growing up as a kid my uncle owned one of these ever since it came out. Now that I'm 20 I asked him if I can use it to learn & get my bikers license 🥹 the bike is literally still like brand new…_*

Lovely bikes... Reliable and all up a great machine for an all rounder. I got mine second hand in the late 80's. I still have it today in 2022 and never will be letting it go. Mine is a single carb model.

I'm the original owner of one of these and it's a keeper! This particular year was the only year Honda brought this particular configuration into the United States. It has a longer stroke than previous years 350's. The engine was a dry sump configuration rather than previous years wet sump motors so oil temp was not a problem as previous years. It was a counterbalanced motor so it was very low vibration, you could ride it all day and not be vibed out. The torque curve was probably the flattest of any I've ever seen on the dyno, almost tabletop flat from 2000 too 8000 rpm. They're basically wasn't a hill it could not climb. I rode it many times the length of Baja found all over the California and Nevada deserts. Dual carburetor's may sound cool, but they were a pain in the.. I also have a 1983 XL 600 with a motor that they only made that year. They detuned the motor in1984 as the '83 was tuned like a road race motor with a short stroke and large valves and a high RPM cam and not suitable for general purpose dirt use. I used the motor as a flat track race motor for 2 yrs. The 84 and later motors made a better all-around dirt bike motor but the '83 could walk away from it on the highway like it was tied to the proverbial fence post.

I once had 1985 XL350R, imported from Germany to Finland. It was with dual carbs.

The 85 XL350r was dual carb. About mid throttle the linkage would start to open the second carb. The thing could scream pretty good when it was tunned right. Super fun DS bike with a 6spd that could rip on the trail once you got to it.

@@Jose_4461 Jose, get yourself a Clymer or Hayes repair manual. I suggest the Clymer, they are the best, everything you need to know is in that book.

Sorry bro, you’re backwards. The 83 and 84 were dual carb. Owned one, and when it was right it was super cool. Changed to single carb in 85. Easier to keep consistent. Awesome bikes, wish I’d never sold mine. If I can find one it will definitely live next door to my 650 R and L

Might need a value adjustment. But still runs good. Get those values adjusted and a full big gun exhaust and you have gold my friend.

Yeah the XL had the double carburetor. It’s a little intimidating at first but it’s not really as technical as you think but having a single carburetor with better jets would be a bit easier.

Building a1985 xl350r at the moment. Getting very frustrated with electrical issues and CDI replacement kits. Seeing this XR ripping will keep me going. Anyone found a CDI new conversion kit (UK) and could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
