Tell him to consider inverted forks and a set of Olens piggy back shocks on the back. That bike is fast, I'd want the best suspension for stability.

Very nice work Dragon, you wont believe the stories I hear dialing with my customers, I took my bike to this guy that's an expert, and its done perfect but wont run. Years ago I specialized in those bikes, and also used them at my Drag Racing school. Cheers Dale

Good job the ZL runs real smooth! Used to have the 86' ZL900 in black few years back and loved it. Metzeler used to make a size bigger rear tire, that looked perfect on this bike.

Total stab in the dark here but I’m desperate for a solid answer. I am rebuilding a 1985 zl900. Do input any sealant at all on the oil pan? Shop manual is cryptic, saying put some sealant on roughly half of the area and leave the other half dry. Thanks in advance!

Should be a pan gasket and a few designated areas of sealant like where multiple mating area come together if that makes sense. But you don't have to coat the gasket with sealant. Make sure both mating surfaces are clean and if you have a knick where any mating surface got gouged during scraping off old gasket, put a dab o sealant in any areas like that. Hope this helps. In a nut shell sometimes you are installing a gasket over an area where two other parts that were put together has a seam so to speak, and you have to put a dab of sealant between that seam and your gasket, that's the only time you should use sealant with a gasket. If it doesn't call for a gasket like alot of engine case halves, then it should state to use only sealant as the gasket.

@@thedragon2299 Roger that dragon, what threw me off is in the shop manual, it describes putting sealant on roughly half of the mating surface, the half that is more square and on the crankshaft side, opposite the oil filter side. It says to put sealant on that half and none on the other half which is totally wacky just like a lot of the way this manual is written LOL

@@busybeelawncare gotcha, so I know for a fact that people have done it many of different ways and most have worked great with no leaks. If it's just 2 flat surfaces shouldn't have any problems.
