I bought a dover white GSL-SE with chocolate brown leather interior, "new" off the showroom floor. I say "new" as the owner of the dealership's wife drove it the first 2,200 miles. The only long term problems I remember having was with the electric window lifts and the a/c. Otherwise, this was one of the finest and most fun cars I've ever owned. I loved it dearly, and still miss it to this day. The car came with Ziebart full paint, undercoating and interior protection. I don't even know if Ziebart is still doing that now. I think I paid around $18,000 for it, and it was absolutely super clean. I loved that rotary engine! Thanks for a trip down memory lane. I loved the orange dash lighting, thought it was the coolest thing ever. And a 9? band equalizer for my cassettes! I was in heaven with that stereo!

Beautiful cars. I bought a brand new red 85 GSL and brand new black 94 Touring. The 85 GSL(SE) had the BEST sound system I have heard TO DATE with it's 9 band equalizer. Never heard anything better. When you started it up at night, all of the lights inside looked like a darn space ship. I remember the 85 GSL-SE was about $17,000 brand new and the 85 GSL, $15,000. Couldn't see spending $2,000 more dollars for the 13B (vs the 12A). Been kicking myself ever since. LOL. $17,000 in 1985 could buy you almost 6, SIX regular cars. Miss my red 85 GSL much more than my black 94 Touring. Also bought a brand new vette. The handling on the vette was lousy compared to these beautiful cars.

I been watching this video for years now. Just to chill. Miss our 84 and 85 Rx7. My wife owned a GSL-SE back in the day same interior color. If anyone wants to sell me this lmk.

Nice job on the video. I own an 84 gsl and I have grown very attached to it, couldn't imagine selling such a good running gsl-se. I would save it and bring it back to life over the years if I was you. It is a gem and guys like me love them.

EXTREME SCALE PERFORMANCE RC Thanks for the comment. It was definitely a fun car, and I can see myself having another first gen some time down the road, but for right now selling was the right thing to do. Good news is it seems to have found a great new owner who will take care of it.

If I ever saw a 85 Black RX-7 GSL SE (with reddish brown twill interior), I would seriously think about buying my old car back. Even with the warping 2x throttle body (ended up using a delorto carb/headers through Racing Beat - still might have a carb rebuild kit I never had to use), injector baffle, transmission input shaft getting bent, 2x oil cooler, Limited Slip rear end rebuild, a clutch, leather steering wheel getting sunlight damage and flaking, main stereo ground failing, gas tank sending unit ground rusting up ( I actually still have the sending unit in box) and multiple front end grill getting crunched up using it as a snowplow with the original blizzak tires plus 2nd gear syncro that was a bear to shift cold (though Amsoil synthetic gear oil helped a ton) ... I would buy it in a minute. Back then the NGK plugs sucked and Denso plugs were the only good plug for that rotary engine. Man I worked on just about everything on that car. Learned with a Haynes manual and experience. I still love that car and every time I heard the dash and engine start up sound....Brings back the memories Oh ya I even missed the feel powerless steering recirculating ball

Ive owned 3, a gsl and 2 gsl se's...still have one SE and they all had that damn clutch squeal lol, i would lube it, tighten it, loosen it but it always came back, its just part of the 1st gen rx7 ownership experience lol
@bigBcrg6 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah I tried tearing it down, lubing, adjusting and it always came back shortly after. Of all the cars I've had though - I miss this one the most!

5 years of ownership and i dont remember having that as an issue? But if it's the same case as my 2008 impreza 2.5i, it's the firewall where the clutch pedal mounts that's too weak, and reinforcing that are would get the squeak away.

Bought my 85 GLSSE in 1991 for $4k and wish I still had it.
@NotSoCrazyNinja5 жыл бұрын
No idea what you sold it for, but here, that car in that condition would fetch maybe $1000, $1500 if you're lucky. In practice, it would take months to fetch that price too. Sadly, I can't find any RX7s in my area. They probably all rusted away or was scrapped. This area is hell on cars despite the limited use of salt on the roads.

You would be lucky to find a rusty Dodge Neon for $1000...this classic runs great...nice interior..some minor rust...easy a $3000 car..you kids want everything for free..this ain't Goodwill...

Yeah you shift at 5k in rotories. I've had the pleasure of owning an 88 vert (drift car with welded diff, short throw and street ported, and my daily a 1985 fb fully stock besides coilovers (yes has the expensive ass conversion kit) and bbs rims

You don’t blast off a rotary in a cold start neither do you always want to redline it every single time because that’s gonna wear it out lmao
