I'd say that gearing does a tremendous difference. My 82 sits at 3.5K RPM doing 70MPH (although mine has 200K more miles than this so maybe that has something to do as well)

No the mileage has nothing to do with it gearing does not change with mileage. I've driven so many of these cars and it's really not a big difference. It's only about a 400 RPM difference. You can literally run these engines at 4,000 RPM all the way across the country if you wanted to.

Still debating inside my head if it is worth getting one as my daily in such excellent condition since I live in the northeast. Maybe I need to apply fluid film to the undercarriage or not. Filed under first world problems 😅

Well if you're getting one to use as your daily driver it's always best to buy the nicest one possible. There are companies that do special treatment to prevent rust in the Northeast I'm sure you're familiar with them. The trick is to just keep a small pressure washer right buyer garage door. When you drive in the winter time and there is road salt every time you come home just take the pressure washer and spray off the undercarriage before parking the car back in the garage. If you have treatment done and then do that you will be absolutely fine. Some people even have a second beater car that they drive in the winter.
