1986: A Cruel Irony (A TAOS Special)

Years after steam engines were scrapped and forbidden to run on British Railways diesel were still the kings rails. But now, the first generation of diesels built between the 50s and 60s where becoming old and out of date, now giving way for the second generation to over take them and leave the older diesels to feel the same fate to how those steam engines felt years ago.

Sure was fun to voice Pip in my Rainbow Dash voice. 🌈 But holy crap... did I tremble over Reginald’s debut in this movie! That hypnosis scene upon D10 was chilling as well as the ending scene. 🌀.🌀 I so can’t wait to introduce him to my own coming stories of Liz’s Journey. As to everyone else’s performance and story, it has certainly been quite a ride. Sad that it’s the final chapter of the trilogy, but that doesn’t stop what’s to come later in Season 2.

A very under explored idea in Thomas fan media. The themes of revolution and evolution/modernisation play well into this film, and obviously the irony of it all. Very well done. I think a lot more in this time era (late 70s onwards) could be explored by Thomas fans; the mass introduction of electric engines, emissions and climate change, union strikes, privatisation, and more. Would love to see more takes on this and peoples thoughts!

The reason they're not being hunted down as much like the steam engines is because they're still diesels and most just brush them off, it's a lot more of an easy escape than the steam engines. You also have to feel sorry for Nicholas, his friend Serena got her wheels ripped off because of a dead diesel, got separated from Serena, bullied by Harrison, on the run for years with most likely life threatening moments and now being forced to work at a iron works otherwise he'll be thrown out and abandoned again not to mention not knowing his friends fates such as Serena.

I love seeing the dynamic and interactions of the diesels, which possibly gives us a foreshadowing to the 1990s in this series. Congrats on the voice acting, btw.

So that’s it 3 years and this modernization trilogy comes to an end. I must say this was an amazing ride to be apart of I was there for all three premiers each one was better than the last. These where more special to me because it felt like an unintentional and coincidental birthday gift for me and always got me excited. But enough about me about the film. Absolutely spectacular If i’m correct I’m pretty sure you are the first person to properly establish the fact that first generation of diesels would be scrapped and that they are now just as wise as there predecessors, on youtube that is, which was a nice touch. you shed some light on engines we wondered what happened to them in the previous movies and shed light on ones who thought there days were numbered and the ones who couldn’t expect the fact that change was coming and they couldn’t avoid it. Can I also point out how certain easter eggs that aren’t even in your TAOS like I don’t know Andy and Ted i’ve been around this community long enough to know where you got those names from, but not old stuck I thought for sure it would have been Patrick, but a well that name the name you gave him and it does suit him. My final thoughts, there are still some mysteries to be solved but in time they will come out like all the OC’s for a start and Let’s not for get Reginald the jungle book snake of movie a great concept. I never thought of, how an engine figures out hypnosis is beyond me, but a clever idea liz came up with I hope we get to know more about him. There are only two Things left to say 1. An absolutely smash of a movie and 2. since this movie series is cannon to your TAOS I would love it if you can explain to me how engines once on sodor that they can break the laws of physics. like punching an engine in the face or texting one another. please explain that to me. But then again you were consistent like for example it was realistic when you took the fight over to the mainland so I do appreciate the consistency on that point.

14:10, actually happened, a class 46 was intentionally crashed into an overturned nuclear flask car, to make sure that it could wistand the force. The flask, weighing 48 tonnes, filled with one tonne of water and 200 metal rods to simulate a full load of uranium fuel rods and pressurized to 100psi, was mostly unharmed,but the class 46, which was traveling 100 mph, and hauling 3 mk1 coaches, number 46009, was destroyed and subsequently scrapped. This happened at old Dolby on July 17th, 1984. And 2000 lucky spectators got to see this safety test up close

It was simulating a high speed derailment of a nuclear flask train, as if they were to leak, could cause radiation to pour into the nearby environment. It was nicknamed operation smash hit. 32 different camera angles were shown of the impact, the was even a cam in the cab of the locomotive. They picked a class 46, because it was the heaviest available diesel in auction
