1986 Chrysler 5th Avenue HVAC control and radio problems

I found all of the vacuum lines to the HVAC control unit had broken off and also the radio has a problem with the switches for the feature buttons.

The switches on your radio are a common problem. We used to fix these all the time. The rubber disintegrates and contacts are either on all the time or never make. The switches are made kind of like a remote control with a rubber membrane. You will have to replace the switches or figure out how to repair them. Good luck.

Those Vacuum connectors are a pain to fine new. I'd try a junkyard, but newer car's might have the same connectors and in better shape so look around. I believe the radio has a spring steel dome that deforms and makes contact when you press the button. I've never had any luck fixing them, but it looks easy enoufh to but some other type of button on and put the faceplate over it with the button covers so it at-least looks stock.

I've heard of many people having issues with those radios. Mine didn't work either. I finally remembered the website that has a forum for those cars..it's dippy.org

My parents had a Chrysler fifth avenue when I was little. The original radio in that car had static on it and I don’t remember for sure but it must have gotten stuck on a am number that was adjacent to a local station because I remember that monkey chat distortion of someone speaking. The radio did get replaced with a new radio.

This makes me wonder what fixing the electronic-vacuum climate control system in my Buick would entail if it ever broke.

I found cracked lines as well with my 87 fifth ave.it is a pain in the neck so far But when it is fixed I'll be so cool !!!

Im having allll kinds of issues with my 86. Mostly due to a leaking windshield. Which i know have had fixed. But years of moisture in the dash has wreaked havoc. Right now i am batteling multiple shorts. As well my temperature control stopped working a few months ago. The ac never has worked. But i used to be able to control my heat from warm to hot. Now its just HOT all the time. Any ideas of what my failure point is?

At 2:36, the pedal design depicted has lasted from 1972? to as late as 2004 for some Chrysler models. Do you know anything about that?

Did you ever fix it for heat all my doors and hoses/ Vacuum lines or fine but I think my blend door isn't working correctly when car is just in park I get warm air once I start driving I get cold air threw vents

I have a 87 Chrysler fifth Avenue and I was wondering about the lights on the outside next to the vinyl do they come on? If they do does anyone know how they are hook up, it's one on each side. Thanks

They do as mine did when i had 1985 Chrysler Fifth avenue but only worked with headlights on

I had the same problem on my 85 fifth ave but i sold it after the shifter linkage broke on me at the dmv and that was like the 15th problem pretty much i had with my car and i couldnt bare to keep putting money into it to have more problems arise

that radio is garbage now get an aftermarket like an alpine or some shit subs, amps, speakers., i had 4 of those fifth avenues 85 all gold 87 all silver 87 white blue halftop vinyl 85 blue prime vinyl head liner was shot too flood survivor sat for 4 years had it 6 weeks the engine was knocking bad dude so i junked it i'm looking a another and final 5th ave. now
