What the claiming system did was eliminate all the corruption that used to happen ( it makes it harder for a trainer to hide a good horse , then spring a surprise and upset the field whenever they decide to win ) you guys don't remember that was a thing that use to plague racing back in the days

How to lose a race: 1. Break several lengths behind the entire field. 2. If you catch up to the field, go miles wide. 3. If you're still threatening to possibly win the race, then keep drifting out towards the stand side, making certain to lose as many lengths as possible in the process.

If D'S a Legend did not miss the break....he would have won by about 5 lengths! Even after missing the break he would have won if he never went miles wide. He was a very unlucky loser in this race.

"Richie" Johnson did a great job here aboard Prince Consort, though it would be fair to say had D's A legend (Hubert Bartley) gotten a better break the result would have been different. "Percy" Johnson, twin brother of Richie Johnson, created a huge upset (99-1) in that era (I believe it was the 1983 Benson & Hedges Gold Cup) aboard Don Corleone. However, "Richie" was way more popular having had a successful partnership with Philip Feanny for quite some time, even won aboard the illustrious "Viceroy" when he was making his debut in 1988 going 5 1/2 furlongs.
