This rare 1986 Fiat Uno 70 SL has a 1.3 Lampredi engine, generating around 70 bhp. I am hoping to have a drive of this at some point next year on Sensible Secondhand Classics. From the collection of Mr Gavin Bushby, these Unos were incredibly popular back in the day, but are almost extinct in this country now. More from this extraordinary collection to come soon... @@lloydvehicleconsulting this wiper arm had a bend to the right, covering more surface and looking less cheap. Distributor was listed as AutoBianchi at the Fiat dealership.

There is a widely held Myth that Fiat Cars are temperamental, have chocolate controls and switches and rust into dust at one year old. However, after the Fiat 127, 128 and Mirafiori came the Uno, Tipo and Panda facelift. These cars had great engines, better build quality and good reliability and economy as well as better rust protection. The Uno in particular had excellent handling, good ride if a bit firm, masses of space and some very clever engineering. Also from 1990 the Uno received a fully galvanized bodyshell. My family have owned 3 Unos and the fabulous Fiorino Van version and all of them were reliable, comfortable, fun to drive, economical, easy to service, great for holidays and generally well able to match up to the Fiesta Mk3, 205, Metro, Renault 5 and Polo. Don't forget that the Uno received a facelift and electronic fuel injection and production carried on well after the Punto went on sale. Fine cars for motorists on a budget. Great exhaust sound very sporty.

Yes, quite spacious for the time, and production did continue in certain places, and under several different names, until 2013 for this design. Very rare in this country now to see any Uno, the most common ones seem to be the Turbo i.e. models. Servicing looks very straightforward. Have already asked if I can film this again when it has an MOT next year.

Decent spec on that little uno, I have a 1989 Uno fire 45... lovely little thing, doesn't like to run very well when cold and can be a little spluttery but when warm it flies down the road, will be putting a clutch in it soon and ready for the summer 😊

That sounds wonderful! Yes, a very high specification little car for 1986. I haven't managed to take this 70 SL for a spin yet, sadly, hopefully I will get to drive an Uno at some point.

I remember some friends having one of these back in around 1986. As far as I can remember, the interior was very nice indeed and had like a light beige colour hard wearing tweed seats. Thank you for the memories and sharing. I was only about six at the time but I think it had electric windows as well.

Thought I was watching Hubnut for a minute , thanks for the wiper action. I think in 1986 this would have felt like one of the most modern superminis even compared to the Peugeot 205 and Renault 5.

In August 1989 my parents, uncle, aunt and I went to Majorca. My dad hired a white base 3 door Uno 45 for the day. He wasn't a fan of the Italian marque but he was impressed with how the Uno performed taking us around the island up and down the hills, 5 up as well. 😃

Around the mid-1980s I bought a Panda instead of the Uno. Former was less expensive so that's the one I bought. Both vehicles were designed by Guigiaro and were huge sellers ... especially Uno mark 1.

Back in the day when I had my first car these were available with some great finance offers, and to be fair, offered a lot of car for the money. Styling for me works better than the Punto that followed. So rare to find one is this condition, looking forward to your future drive review.

Yes, they sold absolutely tonnes of these, even in our traditionally very conservative market. Even the Mark I Puntos are getting really rare now, so both are definitely cars you don't see any more. Thank you again for watching, sir!

This reminds me of my first car a 1985 Fiat Uno 70S 4-door a wonderful car at the time superior to the opposition back in the 80s was for many years the best supermini in it's class! Interestingly it was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (car designer of the century) responsible for great designs like the VW MK1 Golf, DeLorean DMC-12, 1980 Panda, etc... To this day no car I've owned since has ever been as much fun and had a feel-good factor and great 80's styling as the Uno! I'm hoping and hearing rumors the Stellantis group will relaunch an all-new Uno or Punto.

There has been a new Uno launched since the end of the original 1983 platform cars in 2013, but only in South America, and that too has been discontinued now, I believe.

In a uno like this going on summer vacation Man those were different times. Nowadays people think they need SUV’s if they have one little baby. My parents did it with a uno

And complete families drove those machines everywhere. Just simpel engines and practical cars. From a to B and they were proud of it. I have for sympathy for it than nowadays with all those suv’s and cross-overs.

Fabulous, loved it . Great condition .Again , think I prefer this over later Punto. The early Unos had rather “funky” dash with I believe , indicator stalks coming from the dash itself rather than the steering column , it seemed

Yes, I did find it! We had to keep the car running in case the battery went flat after it was brought out of storage where it had been for three years. This had now had an MOT!
