1985年に続いて優勝したボルボ240ターボ速かったしドライブした故アンデルス・オロフソン選手は翌年HR31リコースカイラインGTS-Rを星野一義選手とドライブするとは想像しませんでしたがその後のオロフソン選手の活躍は日産に貢献したのは記憶に残りました!!懐かしい動画ありがとうございました!!🙂👃

Love the Jags. Given that there had been no real development of the XJS since 1984, this was an incredible performance against the VK Commodores and Volvo 240Ts.

It is when you consider the Commodores were lapping Bathurst over 5 seconds faster in 1986 vs 1985.

@@LouGuthryMotors if you consider the Caltex Chase added about 4 sec a lap, the qualifying time of '85 for the XJS (without any further development) would have had it on 6th place on the grid in '87 against the RS500s, M3s and Skylines.

Even in 1986, the V12 Jags still had everyone in Group A for straight line speed. The turbo Volvo's, Mitsubishi's and Nissan's couldn't touch the Jags even in a tow down the straight, and for that matter neither could the V8 Commodore's. Probably the only car that was potentially quicker was the Ford Sierra XR4Ti turbos who reportedly topped 180 mph (290 km/h) at Brno that year. And none were in this race.

At Bathurst in 1985, Tom Walkinshaw and John Goss in their V12 Jaguar's clocked 272 km/h (169 mph) on Conrod Straight. The fastest recorded speed at Bathurst in 1986 was Allan Moffat in the V8 Commodore who, with the aid of a tow, hit 275 km/h (171 mph) in the race itself. The fastest recorded speed at Bathurst in 1986 without the aid of a tow was 269 km/h (167 mph) by Brad Jones in a Ralliart Mitsubishi Starion. For the record, the Nissan Skyline's and Volvo 240T's were topping around 263 km/h (163 mph) on Conrod in 1986. Still much faster than either the V8 Mustang's or the BMW 635's. At a guess I'd say the Jaguars at Fuji were hitting at least 280 km/h (174 mph). Unlike Bathurst's Conrod, there are no lift off points where drivers had to get off the throttle, plus its a much faster run onto Fuji's 1.5 km (0.93 mi) long straight.

In 1985 at bathurst had the Volvo240t 's alternator not failed the outcome might have been different.

What was the story behind the Commodore wheel falling off? Snapped studs? Or wheel nuts not torqued down properly and fell off?

@LouGuthryMotors thanks for the upload though was fun to watch love my old Commodores and I've spent countless hours racing that track on Gran Turismo on Playstation over the years so it was so unusual to see a VK on that track. I wished GT7 added some Aussie cars back to the Gran Turismo series, atleast we've got Bathurst though.
