The screw should be adjusted so as the mark on cam (small triangle) and roller follower touch the throttle butterfly shaft should just start to rotate (open). This synchronizes the ignition timing to carburetor position. Think of it as base timing. If off,it can cause hard starts, poor acceleration and wide open throttle position

There is a spacer which sticks out maybe 1/4 inch which prevents you from tightening it too much. Mine fell out and I can't find it. The spacer should push the cam roller out just far enough too. I am looking for a new spacer myself or I could buy a plastic one at home depot if I knew the size

That link from the butterfly valve to that roller looks too short may be incorrect one from another model. That roller should be barely touching that plate at a raised mark when throttle control is at “start” good luck. These Are great engines don’t get rid of it. From the looks of it ou have a very nice one!

that roller cam way off from cam roller arm is distorted you could run that screw all the way and it still would be off best case order new roller assembly worst case take heat gun and try to shape that one back to right form

Jaw Bone The cam roller originally had a second plastic sleeve on the outside, making it bigger. I bought a complete part, but it still didn't fit quite right. The fix I used was to make the roller larger using duct tape. Runs much better now.

Hello. It is very easy to on this motors. There is a mark on the cam that pushes the roller and correct setting is when mark comes to center of the roller,the roller then pushes linkage on the carb and just starts to open the butterfly. Thats correct seting for these. Your timing is way out and even with duck tape,your engine is not synchronised properly. There is screw on the roller,that is for setting timing on it.
