Hold onto your hat - the canister style filter was also on our old 1987 coupe with the 2.7L engine. We ended up swapping the oil filter base over to the screw-on style later on just for availability sake. Oddly enough, BMW also used that canister-style filter through the 2000s, although those were mounted at the top of the engine instead of the bottom.

Parts hunting on 80s Hondas is always fun! Like Christmas morning when you find something you need! I need to take both of my 1st Gen CRXs in for a wiper recall. Be fun to see the reaction! 😂. Great content!

Great car! My grandmother drove one of these back in the day. Hers was an automatic, but these are way cooler with the 5 speed manual gearbox. My current car is a 2005 Honda CR-V with the 5 speed manual gearbox. I love it!!!

@@TysonHugie yeah I got it last summer with 200k one owner, very well maintained and no rust. What more could I ask for? lol well I've had to do a lot of upkeep maintenances here and there on a bunch of things but it’s never given me any trouble. It always runs. I plan to hold onto this car for a very long time.

For the sunroof drains, I recommend blowing through them with compressed air and then dumping some windshield washer fluid down the drains. That usually does the trick. I had an issue like that on my CRV, which turned out to be that the sunroof wasn’t properly adjusted so it wasn’t sealed properly. I did also take the opportunity to degrease the tracks and pack them with fresh new synthetic grease. Probably a good idea to do that while you’re in there as well.

So cool to see this old gem being restored to factory new (or as close as possible to factory new) condition! You know, I think it’s probably easier in 2024 to restore a 1969 Camaro than it is to restore a 1980s Honda/Acura product. What about 111,111 as the mileage goal for the Acura anniversary celebration?

Can you just buy regular oil filters for the 86-87 Legends? Aren’t some older models of Honda Oil filters compatible for the car?

I have a few OEM oil filters from the early 90s that I bought but I'm afraid to use them due to their age. Worry the paper has degraded and may ruin the engine.

Had no idea Honda ever used that style oil filter. Common on the German brands though still to this day. Was that Thompson Twins playing at the dealership? Haha. They wanted to make that old ‘86 feel at home 😊

Hey Tyson, since I commented on your video posted today, 4/20/24, it got me thinking. You seem to be the go-to guy when it comes to restoration. I figured I'd ask your opinion here versus bother you with an email. I have a Lexus IS and inherited a scratch on the center console (shifter area) which is the birds-eye maple wood (dark) with gloss over it. Is there a way to fix the scratch? Do those buff out? I just don't want to make it worse. Thanks for your assistance. Galen
@TysonHugie
@TysonHugie 8 ай бұрын
That's a tough one, I don't know if it will buff out. I recently tried fixing a center console by sanding off the top layer to re-clear it, and I ruined the whole thing.

@@TysonHugie Thx for the reply. I thought to re-coat that area with polyurethane, yet it might make it worse. It is not obvious to people but I know it's there. I'll check around the Lexus forums. Have a nice weekend!

Time for new tires for my RL (the Michelins are cracking) didn't you put Hankooks on this Legend and what do you think of them?
@TysonHugie
@TysonHugie 8 ай бұрын
I would have done Michelin but they don't make them in the size for this 1986 Legend. I believe they do make them in RL sizes. I haven't driven these Hankooks more than 100 miles or so.
