Zhao's stinging smashes were not that effective in this game. It was with his speed and stamina in coming to the net early that made the difference and Misbun inability to last the pace after mid game.

Godfrey D'Cruz N Co Godfrey D'Cruz N Co 1 day ago in terms of technique and play Misbun werent inferior. His weakness was his Stamina and Power. I use to think Misbun was quite lower in standards to the top Players particularly Yang Yang Zhao Xiong and Han Jian. After watching this video its not in the technique he lacks but the footwork stamina and muscle power. These could not be helped because coaches at BAM done a good job at honing skills but has not evolve the power training required of full professional. It was with Elyas Omar who brought in Fang Kai Xiang to train the top shuttlers. He did not change their technique much but concentrated on their stamina and power. Chen Chang Jie was actually more instrumental in bringing Chinese techniques to the juniors which bear fruit in the 90s.

maybe due to the different scoring system back then, that misbun focus more on techniques,skills and deception, instead of stamina

Misbun technique and play were inferior, compared to the best MS. Don't judge just one match, look at his career win.

If this happened today, Zhao would've been diagnosed with the nonsense that is "Covid 19", every other player would've been forced to wear masks and these wonderful fans would've been barred from the stadium and forced to stay at home.
