Close. Ryan Villopoto 2007 Des Nations was the greatest performance ever . Attached is a article comparing OShow's performance to Villopoto. Both are rare Legendary performances. motocrossactionmag.com/amp/flashback-friday-ryan-villopoto-dominates-the-2007-mxdn/

@@goldsbym I think that the best motocross race is that of O'show in the nations of 96 a major, I was present, I remember that that 125 laps at the top of the race and passes people like Thorpe, Jobe, Mhalerbe, champions of the world with the 500 two-strokes that had triple the horsepower of the 125 on a track like Maggiora is an epic feat, 35 years have passed I have seen many motocross and supercross races even in the states but a race like that of O'Mara in Italy I haven't seen her since
@goldsbym2 жыл бұрын
@@albertolupo9754 I have to agree that was a legendary performance and I put that ride as good as Villopoto 2007 Des Nations Budds Creek Villopoto on a 250cc won both motos against the 450cc. Not only did he win, he won both motos. In the 1st moto he had at one point in the race over a 30 second lead. He even wrecked, because of a lapped rider, got up and still won by 15 seconds. Ricky Carmichael was in that moto. Beating the goat by 45 seconds on a 250cc, Carmichael on a 450cc , is to me to most impressive performance ever. In the 2nd moto Villopoto won by over a minute lapping up to 11th place. But O Shows ride is certainly one of the best for sure. Mitch Payton of Pro Circuit was asked what he thought the best performance he had ever witnessed and he immediately said Villopoto 2007 Des Nations. However his opinion is probably biased, because Villopoto was on Mitch Payton's team and bike that year. Same goes for me, I have watched both of those performances, and they are both so rare, we will probably not see many other performances as those. Just my opinion. Attached is a article by Motocross Action magazine talking about both O Show's and Villopoto's performances. motocrossactionmag.com/amp/flashback-friday-ryan-villopoto-dominates-the-2007-mxdn/

@@goldsbym villopoto is a legendary champion, nothing to say, but I had already seen O'Mara in a test of the 125 world championship in Switzerland, he had replaced Watanabe, official Honda rider in the world championship, stopped due to an injury, I think it was 1989- 1990, he presented himself in the tests driving like a cowboy, a style unknown to us Europeans, he invented double jumps and woops where the others were wrecked, on the Sunday of the race he showed up at the gate all dressed in white, gaiters on white boots and had gave a show in both heats by winning them and humiliating the Europeans, geboers, rinaldi, my other idol, maddi, welkeneers, etc. etc, from there my sima was born for O'mara, when he came to Italy for the nations he raced with his heart, the difference between a 450 4t and a 250 4t is not as clear as a 125 2t and a 500 2t, the difference is abysmal and if you put the two bikes in the field on a track as more than the 500 driven by world champions with a small 125 it becomes an epic feat and the level of the cyclist at the time was not at the levels of now, that day O'Mara ran with the heart, pilots of yesteryear, I saw them again at the superbowl in genoa the following year, Bailey, Glover, O'Mara, Magoo Chandler, Ward, even there a show memorable for us Italians who did not know what supercross was, if not from the newspapers and photos that came from the USA, I could stay here talking days and whole days talking about mocross and the champions of the past when they showed up on the competition fields with a van, a mechanic and a lot, a great desire to run

Far and away the best moto video ever! It was the best of times in American motocross and this was it's greatest moment. David Bailey's commentary makes it. He takes you inside their heads and brings a 30 year old race to life as though it was yesterday. When he says "that day, we were kings" in a large way he brought that sentiment to all of us motocross fans. I remember the pride I felt as moto fan and an American for their accomplishments that day. Side note: In later years, through the kindness and generosity of friends over many years of racing attendance, I got to know David's mechanic Cliff White. This guy is not only a genius but even more, one of the kindest gentlemen I ever met.

I remember thinking, "Man, I am involved in the best sport in the world, and a fan of the best athletes in the world." In my mind that day, (when I read about it in a mag), I could have finished 4th. :)

It seems like I re-visit this video every few months or so....it is by far my favorite motocross video or movie that exists. It isn’t just the masterful performances of Johnny O’Mara, Johnson and Bailey, it’s the narration by Bailey that makes it even more special. O’Mara’s ride on that 125 is so historically significant, it goes beyond a representation of his skill, to a demonstration of the cliche’ often used in sports, “heart”. He absolutely transcends the physical capabilities of that bike and lays down what can only be described as PERFECT. It’s truly a beautiful thing to watch and hearing David Bailey give his heart felt story of the event makes it even better. First class, from a time that was the peak of the sport in my opinion, before the lawn mower racing👍😂
@PorscheFan Жыл бұрын
“Lawn mower racing”. My thoughts exactly. In 2018 I was at the MXdN at Redbud. I had a pit pass and happened to be at the KTM tent when a mechanic pushed Jeffrey Herlings’ bike out and started it up. I was standing there thinking, wow, that’s probably the most expensive dirt bike in the world but it still sounds like a lawn mower.

I spent quite a bit of time as an up and coming 250cc motocross rider at Indian Dunes in Valencia. During that time, it was usually Erik Kehoe winning the minis, O’Mara on the 125’s, and Donnie Hansen on the 250’s. O’Mara’s 125’s were so finely-tuned that they used to bark in the air. Nobody rode the 125’s like he did. Amazing to see him keep up on a much lower-powered bike in this video. I miss those old Indian Dunes days.

This brings back all of the memories, feelings, excitement, and any kind of emotion for me. Johnny O' was the best 125 rider for that team hands down and Honda mad a bad decision to let him go. Thanks to everyone responsible for this video and for David Bailey for narrating!!
@EarthSurferUSA Жыл бұрын
Honda did get rid of the 3rd best rider in the world, as they were RJ, Bailey and O'Mara at the time, and it did look like a mistake to let him go by the end of this event. But after that, Johnny could not make them sorry. I think more than anything, leaving the team and his best riding buddy David Bailey,---hurt his winning spirit that he may have retained if Honda had told him after this day, "Here is a new contract.". We will never know. But the fact of history is, Johnny could not make Honda sorry for letting him go, so we can't say it was a bad business decision. Irony that Honda lost RJ and David by injury in the next 2 summers. I guess you could call it Karma, but that would make RJ and Bailey victims of Karma. Just thinking. :)

I was only running third I thought that strange. after the moto the quad rider came over it was David Bailey. I got to shake my hero hand he said it was good to see a air cooled 500 racing. he gave them way when Honda gave them to him for practice bike. best day racing yet

Incredible race! Perfection. I was fortunate at a young age working for Oakley and knew all of our sponsored riders. I would set up all the goggles for the riders for every moto and practice. So I was able to help out in a small way. You would not believe how many goggles, we set up every pro race. Didn’t know David Bailey at all, but spent time with Johnny and Ricky at races and photo shoots. Both those guys were funny characters away from the track. On a side note: What David was talking about David Thorpe was absolutely true. David was such a gentleman and clean rider. I would spend a little time with him when he would come to the U.S. I’m glad The American riders showed him respect.

The first time I noticed David Bailey was when he was on a Blue Bultaco at High Point raceway in 79 or 80, he was there parked with his dad getting the Bultaco ready for war. I don't think he did that great that day , but little did I know that this kid was to become one of the best motocrosser's that ever lived. Also saw him once in Lima Peru at Manchay raceway a place I grew up in by destiny , but wouldn't give up the opportunity to see a American come and show his stuff down there . Davids injury was such a heart breaker , to this day and films like this one serve to have all of us remember how good these guy's actually were, that goes for Johnny and Rick also. Awesome narrating too, Thanks "Little Professor" , hang in there.
