When i bought my 87 firebird a few months ago, it had less than 200 miles on it, it had the same owner since she rolled off the showroom floor. Its a gta solid black and has the classic goldspoke rims

And i just pulled a 37 mile 1983 Grand Prix out of a barn in northern Minnesota, bought by a little old lady to drive to church on sunday with all the performance options but she died the day after she bought the car and her husband and kids loved the car so much they changed the oil and tires every few years and started it up so the engine wouldn't lock up but the stupid zoomer grandkids didn't care because it doesn't have a screen to play fortnite on so they sold it to me for $13 in v-bucks

Beautiful car ! I love those rims. The engine doesn't make 205hp though. Your car has the base cabureted LG4 which made 155hp/245ft.lbs that year. Also that grinding noise we can hear when you're in the car is the power antenna motor turning all the time. Typical issue with them, the nylon cable that pushes the antenna mast has fallen into tiny pieces...you can unplug the power antenna by removing the pasenger side dashboard plastic panel. There's a connector on a relay with three wires (white, green and black), unplug it.

I recently got a 92 305 v8 firebird, last year they did this body style...my dream car...it does need some fixing up to be a reliable every day driver, definitely needs a possible battery or fuel filter/throttle position sensor/IAC valve since it'll randomly die unless I floor the gas, but, the v8 sounds so sexy even with the cheap single exhaust muffler that's on it I couldn't resist getting it

+dratsab1980 It's a bit of both, the american V8 is a bit like the 4 cylinder in Europe. It is a very versatile platform : most V8s were nothing special, built as reliable and simple engines, but there were some powerful versions. In the sixties, the power output numbers were insane but completely irrealistic. In 1972 they started using SAE net HP ratings which were comparable to what we use today, and of course, the power ratings dropped significantly. Then the fuel crisis came right after and the emission systems showed up and it all went downhill. It wasn't until around 83-84 that engines became more and more efficient and the HP started climbing thanks to new technologies and fuel injection. But you can't compare the engines of the 80's to those of today.

+SuperDuty455 I understand they dont compare, you were hit with massive restrictions, but I drove the Gaillardo LP600, also a 5.0 (albiet a V10) but putting out a huge 600bhp, it just seemed like such a waste of 5 litres of american cubic inches even back then, althought Im sure the torque was impressive...

But it's 600hp at 8000rpm. With a dual overhead cams all aluminium high compression fuel injected engine that requires high maintenance. Very little restrictions to the exhaust, it's meant for racing. Those 5.0L aren't totally wasted, they're used differently. Only one cam controls all the valves, they run at much lower RPM than most european engines. And because of that, they're not that bad on fuel. I get 23-24MPG with my 5.0L HO (same engine as this '86 but improved in every way). With some mods, those old small block chevy engines can get over 600hp, but not in stock form.

What these cars need is an LS3 engine and 4L80 transmission that would be great in these cars. I have 85’ Trans AM t- top sadly rusting away would love to bring her back to life with LS3 setup. These cars may not ride great be they will really handle the road well..
