I found some horrors on my 1100G. Number one it was an 1100H according to the chassis number. The engine had some welding on the crankcase lowers, probably a bad crash repair. In UK we have age related number plates. Instead of an expected 86 C or D it was an 89 F, I think it was probably originally a race bike and put back on the road at the later.l date. I was taken in by the overall presentation which was good and everything was there. I restored it, replacing lots of old parts including the suspension both ends, full stainless system, and had the panels repaired, and repainted as a G in blue and white and it now looks almost like new. It’s also strange it still has some G model components on it, front spindle, front fender and tank, so it’s still a mystery. As you say many owners over the years leaving there mark lol! I’m looking forward to seeing you turn around your 750 it deserves the effort 😊

Thanks Ian, I just release the first 2 videos on the restoration and im currently with a bare frame. The engine in my 86 is an 88 slingshot R707 ending and it’s buggered is several ways. Since it’s no original anyway it’s going to be cheaper to source a B12 for it or another donor.

Thanks for your reply! Your 750 chassis will fly with the 1200 lump in there. I’ve got a ‘97 MK1 1200 Bandit with 57000 miles on the clock, it’s heavy but still so much fun to ride. 😊

@@ianhoyle8459I bought a 98 bandit s 1200 as a donor but it’s pristine and too nice to part it out , so now I’m searching for another one. U can see the bandit I got in one of my vids here. Cheers! Happy new year !
@ianhoyle8459
@ianhoyle8459 10 ай бұрын
Yes I thought it was good that you decided not to harvest the engine from your bandit. I’m looking forward to seeing you resurrect the GSXR as you say you can have a blank canvas and do what you want with it, without devaluation; a mega engine and modern wheel sizes? But I think whatever you do will make a good investment anyway and save another classic machine 😊 Happy New Year 🎉👍

I find a solid crate as a step, over a second ramp to walk up is easier to load and unload.
@true-moto-resto
@true-moto-resto 10 ай бұрын
I used a loading dock at the place I got it from and have 2 ramps I use when at home , one to walk down, one for the bike. Works pretty well. Plus at home I have a designated load/unload area which keeps my ramps almost horizontal so makes it easy

Looking forward to this resto how many miles does the clock show these bikes always struck me as being a bit fragile in the engine department but that may stem from some of the early ones snapping big end bolts

Hi Karl, 46,000 km on the bike but the engine is an R707 which makes in an 88-90 slingshot 750 engine, So likely the original engine bit the dust and this was replaced.

Left out in the rain and sun for too many years. When you get into this bike you will realize its for parts, nothing else.
@true-moto-resto
@true-moto-resto Жыл бұрын
Well, it’s certainly been left outside a long time that is certain. But if I get her running, she will be restored. The engine turns over, so as long as it doesn't knock/smoke bad, I should be good to go. Carbs are a mess so that will be a big challenge. I didn't pay much, so fingers crossed. If she runs, the rest will be easy-ish. If not, well I can get more for the parts than I paid for it.
